If there is a lip section of bodywork where 2/3 panels join in a sandwich (mmmm sandwich) and were spot welded together originally... Is it safe to cut it back and seam weld them together...
As I write this I am taking a stab in the dark that this practice occures when people "seam weld the body" just want to know before I crack out the cutter on this sucker
Must have been having a major brain fart earlier from inhaling to much old underseal... Cutter came out, welder tommorow, job done

If weldings like tattoo'ing Then my car has some really sh*t ones

Red paints are traditionally made from Cochineal (sp?) beetles so they are organic and therefore not UV stable. Most others are mineral based.
Modern red pigments are synthetic so more stable.

OK, Spigot bushes/bearings. What do they do and why do RWD cars need them but FWD cars don't?

They support the front of the input shaft on the gearbox (the shaft that pokes out from the centre of the bellhousing and has splines that fit into the clutch plate) Some FWD cars do have them but i'm not sure why others don't

This might just be me imagining it, but have car parking spaces in supermarkets and the like become smaller or is it just that cars have become that much larger? I wonder because even in an older car, parking spaces seem much narrower and shorter than they were and getting in and out without bashing the car parked next to you seems more and more difficult. My late uncle designed roads and carparks, and painting smaller spaces is a 'design solution' used to create more capacity I do also believe that cars are getting bigger. Was behind a really old Austin todY on motorway and it startled me how much space he had side to side in his lane. Look at old mini compared to new mini

Can you bump-start a car in reverse by pushing it backwards?! In my head it works, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm almost certain you can, I'm almost certain I have done once. That didn't help...did it.

Can you bump-start a car in reverse by pushing it backwards?! In my head it works, but I'm not 100% sure. Yes is the anwser to that. But as its a low gear it would be fairly difficult but by no means impossible. Whenever I jump a car I do it in 3rd 5 speed or 2nd on a 4 speed, its just easier. Well at least it is on a zetor tractor that I bumped by towing it backwards with a landy the other day. My daft question which I really should know. What is the difference between a dynamo and an alternator other than an alternator kicks out more current at lower speeds. How do they physically differ?

I thought the difference between a dynamo and an alternator was that a dynamo created direct current and an alternator created alternating current??

Yes it is very possible to jumpstart a car in reverse, but keep in mind some cars will be difficult to get it into reverse once moving

I used to drive a old Merc bus which bumped far easier in reverse than any other gear. This was handy as it was the easiest gear to find in the shonky old box ;D

What is the difference between a dynamo and an alternator other than an alternator kicks out more current at lower speeds. How do they physically differ? Dynamos have rotating windings and a split commutator. The field is stationary, and the brushes take care of giving you a DC output by mechanically switching the polarity of the windings as they sweep the commutator. This is like a DC motor in reverse. Alternators have a rotating field (fed via slip rings) and the windings are stationary. They need electronic diodes to convert AC from the windings to DC. It's possible to convert an alternator to a powerful motor by removing the diodes and electronically commutating the windings. I bump started a Volvo 340 in reverse once too.

And i believe that the new mini has the same wheelbase as the Original RangeRover Andy

When the oil leaves thick browny/yellow poo like stuff around the oil filler cap, or clinging to the bottom of the dipstick does that mean there is air mixing with the oil?

Oh and another one was thinking today while out driving, I see quite a lot of retros about and I want to show my interest to the driver.I saw a beautiful E21 today and wanted to congratulate the driver. Bikers have that sideways nod they do to one another, It says "hello" and shows they share common interests. But I'd feel a right pratt flashing my lights or doing a thumbs up with a cheesy grin.
What do you do, appart from don an RR sticker?
