Good on BMW I say, equal treatment and all that, in the past they've put too much focus on targeting prats of just one gender. Exactly right. They have cleverly decided to go after the entire prat demographic now. And after all, their traditional buyer profile has over the last few years slumped more and more into the characteristics (nailfiles, make-up, extended pinky whilst sipping, etc) of the new emerging target demongraphic, so it only makes rational sense.

I got stuck trying to get the Minx out of its parking space when we had the deluge last week. Rear tyres were on the fresh tamac that had been sheltered by the car being there. The front crossmember just dug in to the snow though and I couldn't move! Had to dig a central trench out to get on to the centre of the road. ;D Minimal power and narrow tyres haven't let me down.

I'm running 205/65s on me lucida and had no traction problems at all (except when i want to that is) conversly my Mk4 escort with 145s is curse word in the snow but then there's snow on tarmac and snow on ice, differant animals alltogether, i don't have anything with ABS (except customers cars) to compair to.

my lowered, modern beetle with fat low-pro's and my lowered modernish polo 6n with fat low pro's have both been excellent in really bad snow, with ungritted roads. camper was also trekking everywhere on flat tall profile 175 van tyres. i think there is some modern haterz at work here...

Blah blah blah all modern cars and their owners are stupid etc.... I never said modern car are curse word they are fine if you just want to get from A to B personally I look to be a little more involved in the whole experience of driving but each to their own I suppose . as for modern car drivers yep pretty much hit the nail on the head there not all but an alarmingly high number look around next time your out driving and tell me i'm wrong

That dtest is interesting, the AT's on our truck felt good in the snow but we still have the stock wheels so i may hunt around for some winter tyres for them later in the year just in case, cant hurt and they shouldn't cost a fortune, looks worth it from that test.

But little is any use on sheet ice other than things like studs and chains. Untrue. I drove both my car and my mum's car on the rare sheet ice roads around the village last night, they're usually well gritted. They are both fitted with regular winter tyres and coped fine apart from some minor wheelspin. One modern car I've noticed that copes very well with the snow is the Fiat Panda, even in 2WD form. I suppose it's one of the last new cars which has an old car attitude - skinny tyres and decent ground clearance on most versions, little in the way of traction aids because they're not needed. The 4x4 versions seem utterly unstoppable though, I want one!

I was having a lot of problems doing my round in my works van. It's an LDV Maxus, front wheel drive heap of curse word. You can barely get any traction when pulling away from a junction when it's wet, let alone snowy/icy. Front wheel drive vans are a rotten idea.
