pedals, pedal arms, axle, tyre and inner tube as well.... ;D I put a load of nuts on to the axle and ground them down into a sort of square taper...one side was spot on the other nearly spot on, bit of play though. this was when I realized my welder seems to have temporarily packed up to fixie the wheel......so mounted the pedals just for some pics the pedal arms are positioned to go towards wheel rather than stick out I chose a 24" rear wheel with a steel hub phase 2 when I can be bothered and when it warms up is to maybe cut the ends off a bottom bracket axle and weld them in for fixed wheel drive...if poss here is my inspiration....might just go and get one of these tho anyone else done similar?

So what's the deal, can you ride this like a unicycle? I'm thinking no, because I sit my weight on the saddle on my uni. And crush my balls epicly if I get it wrong ;D

I think you could ride it like a unicycle, but it would be much more difficult! So basically it's for top-gun acrobats only. Any youtube videos around of these being ridden?
Edit: Found it. They're called the Ultimate Wheel, and apparently they can be ridden!

This is a whole unicycle and not just a wheel, but the performance is amazing!

I got a unicyle from SJS cycles on Ebay a couple of years ago. Didnt cost much. I tried it about 10 times. I could go it a bit. But it really hurt my legs. So didnt use it much. Sold it to a man at work that was a mad keen BMXer.
The cranks on unicycles, and that, which is called an Ultimate Wheel, take a hammering. So if I was building one like that. I would get steel cranks from a cheap bike and weld them to the hub.
I found a Youtube video of a man on an Ultimate wheel. He can do hops and other fancy stuff. Even does a Le mans start.

Oh yeah. Ive not logged on here for a while. will have a look
When I was practising my unicycle I would go round the corner. Theres a nice smooth pavement with a stong steel fence, in front of the school grass. So good to hold onto, and no one in the evening to laugh at me falling off. I had good thick gloves on. so my hand could skim along the fence. Its good to practice back and forward a little. Theres a few unicycle teaching videos. Wave your arms about. Look as far ahead as possible.

I knew it was theoretically possible to ride an ultimate wheel, but had no idea it could be done so well, that's some mad skills in the vid! Gud luck with it, redgt.
I know it's a little OT, but thought I'd throw this one in: ;D

I thought that someone who was building an ultimate wheel would appreciate some more pedal-powered madness. The guys who made it have their own site: www.bikeforest.com/cb/index.phpCheck out some of their other projects, and the description of their road trip on the couchbike had me laughing for ages. (Trips-> Couchbiking). Truly inspirational nuttyness.

They went to see the man with the couch bike, treadmill bike and Hula bike on the Gadget show. Pity it wasnt Suzi Perry doing the Hula.

I looked at youtubes suggested videos and seen some of the BC wheel. Aparantly its a wheel you can buy. But looks like it would be easy to make one. Heres someone modifying one to be rocket powered. ;D
