Well, I never really got to build a car with my dad, though we did loads of stuff together. Show us your "Father and son, or daughter or kids or even wife" car or bike builds To start off, I found this thread....... Here: 67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=305723He started with this: Ended up here. Go on, show us what you have. Unfortunately, even with Nicola's kids, I have Zero interest, so will keep doing it alone, or with her , which is not a bad thing in itself.

Would have loved to do a build with my dad when I was younger but he's not into cars and we start shouting at each other for as little as carrying something together.

it always ends in arguments if me and dad do anything together, mainly a clash of style or the generation gap, plus he drives moderns these days as he claims hes too old to be fixing cars although i know deep down he loves old cars and tinkering as he always quizzing me about things or comes down the lockup for a look at whats going on and likes the road trips to collect new cars

My little girl is too young at just 3, but she's showing potential so it will only be a matter of time... To keep it OT, I have helped my Dad with his car, although only very little. There are plans afoot for us to buy something together though, as the T-Bird is nearly done. Chris

The 2002 has been a father/son undertaking. My parents had gone on holiday in Cyprus visiting my gran. When my dad came back he found a rusty orange lump on his drive. I tried to sweeten the pill by picking my folks up from the airport but I'll never forget turning up back at the house with him and him, mid sentence saying "yeah, your gran is not doing so bad - she just has to avoid the heat and keep hydrat-what the fu*k is that doing on my drive? Is some prat having a giggle or something?". Anyway, after I explained he saw the potential and so it began. I was working in central London at the time so I would get home at about 6:30 and head straight to the garage. He would usually have spent a few hours in there as he had just retired and we'd then be in there together until god knows when every night stripping, cleaning and prepping for our mate to come over with the welder or else striping the brakes or one of the many other jobs that needed doing. It obviously started as a quick clean up project but that went out the window what with him being a bit of a perfectionist I really do have fond memories of the time, especially as my folks spend 6 or 7 months of the year abroad now.

Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

The Anglia i bought when i was 15/16 Didn't know then what i do now and still got a lot to learn which is why dad did most of the build. 10 years on and it still raises a smile which is one of the reasons it'll be the last thing i ever sell.

Grizz - you been cruising the Garage forum ?
I used to help my dad and that is where I picked up some of the basics. He bought me a socket set for my 20th birthday which is still mostly intact (30 yrs) My 2 sons don`t know the difference between a spanner or a screwdriver to which I blame their mother and they don`t like "old cars" although my daughter wants something old and cool.

My dad has never really been into cars. My uncle was though, so used to help him with his Sierra's when I was younger. My little lad is a little to young to he helping yet, might be able to in the summer though The person that helps me out the most on the cars are my brother and partner. She is a qualified welder and has messed around with cars before, so she's very useful.

Erm, Yes. ;D Garage forum is loaded with good links and info. In fact a lot like Retro Rides, just a different direction and topics. Always looking for ideas, also love stuff like that, and being a pickup puts a cherry on top.

Both these cars were/are Father/Son projects. I do it all now as he doesn't live at home any more and claims to be too old and out of touch to work on anything. That doesn't take away that everything I know about mechanicals was learned from him on my first estelle^. When I was younger, helped him with restoring his Caddy/Olds/Minivan/Cambridge/etc, but I was too young to actually be intricately involved in the builds.

Here's the Mrs_Seth engine fitting shot. Now that there's an ickle_Seth she tends to leave it to me though. Never got a chance to "build" anything with my dad unfortunately, though he certainly helped and taught me quite a bit when he was still around.

I started off this Austin 7 by myself with just the bare chassis with the intention of turning it into a chummy special. However, my dad became more and more involved, particularly on the financial side, and it is now becoming a Brooklands replica. I think it is fair to say that it is now more his project than mine!

Not had much chance to get anything started with my daughter as she's only 7 and my other halfs two boys are not interested unless its made by lucas arts and kills jedis. I'm holding out some hope for my daughter as she often says, "do a skid daddy" and "Why are we at the back daddy? i want to be in front of those other cars!" One of my mates took her out (aged 6) for a spin in an MX5 and she kept telling him he wasn't going fast enough apparently.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Depressing thread, mates. Two pages in and we have a baker's dozen stories of unrequited father-bonding. Hell, even the OP has "zero interest", lol. I'm feeling the Austin 7 guy's project. Then there's the off-topic looks at my wife or my daughter curveballs (nice as they are, they ain't sons or fathers). OK.... so.... I'd go on about my build of a V6 Mk1 Capri with son Matt, but I hate to interrupt all the tears and sobbing with a happy outcome, lol! ;D

Me and my dad built my old Polo G40. Total rebuild and I owned it for 7 years but sold it as it was never being used and needed the garage space for my karts. Some days I wish I had kept it, other days I remember how much of a headache it could be, but it was a mad car that we both had a riot with ;D

I'm always very jealous of seeing father and son builds. My dad was a welder and heating and ventilation engineer and did fabrication work aswell, but wouldnt teach me anything even tho i showed a strong interest in mechanics, fabrication and engineering from a young age.
It has however shown me that making sure your childs hobbies are nurtured is really important and i will definitely try starting such a build if i ever have kids.
