I decided I need a car that simply works. I don't drive much, but just for going up and down to the workshop and fetching parts for my project cars it would be convenient. Earlier today I was on my way to have a look/buy a Skoda Felicia Combi but it sold while I was driving there. Unfortunately I then noticed this... www.nettiauto.com/rover/600-sarja/2933207These things are rare over here. It is probably not the best car if you want something that works. Or is it? After all its a Honda underneath, right? I don't really want an extra project car, but that is so cool... A check with the Finnish vehicle register reveals that the owner has died, so it was probably an elderly owner. Opinions? I'll post some classic Rover pictures next to make up for the modern-ish car topic ;-)

I've had a couple of these, good cars overall. They use the running gear/engine from the Honda Accord but they do have their differences. What to look for: Handbrakes - cr@p even when new and get worse as the car gets older. Rear calipers refuse to work after a while. Rust - worst part are the edges of the rear panels just above the rear bumper by the rear arch - if these are OK, the rest will be. Radiator - can self-destruct the fins, though the last one I had had lost about 50% of its fins and went through the summer with no problems. Otherwise, make sure all the electrics work and there is a good service history. As long as the engines are looked after, they'll hit ridiculous mileages (my first I bought at 125,000, sold at 165,000 and saw it in a breakers with 247,000 on it.....) They are a big, comfy car....

My dad had 2 of these from new, a 93 620i when they were first released and a 97 620Si as a replacement. The 620Si was quite a nice car. The interior plastics etc are really really tacky now (looking back) but overall, it was a good and comfortable car. He replaced it with a Rover 75 2.0V6 which was a huge leap forward, but I still hanker after a 620ti for a little fun If it's cheap, in good nick with good history then I wouldn't hesitate to go for it.

My dad had a white one. Was alright, a little dull, went well! His was a 1996, as a matter of fact he also had a Honda Accord that was also a 1996, we both perfered the Honda. But no denying it was a decent car capable of doing the job.
Chap at work has a diesel one and swears at by it.

I have had two 620's and really enjoyed them. They really need some wider wheels - I used Rover 800 alloys...
Half leather is very comfy if you can find it. Biggest gripe with the car was the turning circle which is poo.
Go for it though - cheap and competent motors!

Nice motors. Japanese mechanicals but pleasant Rover styling. 620Ti is the ultimate sleeper - though they do tend to blow gearboxes and (if not looked after, or tweaked) head gaskets.
As has been said, I believe that Metro is one of the 'pizza van' development mules for the MGF. Imagine getting paid to build stuff like that?! All it needs is some City badges...
