Without wanting to experiance the wrath of all the mini owners out there, How easy is it to put a late 1.1L Metro engine and box into a mini? when I say how hard what I mean is how cheap? The reason I'm thinking about this is I've got to start rebuilding my fiancee's mini pretty soon and I really don't want to throw money at rebuilding a leaky old A series engine and box when I might be able to use the engine and box from her metro. OR Debate....

Put it this way, if your going to go to the trouble of putting something non-aseries in there you should find some thing a little better than a cruddy 1.1 k-series!! Id rebuild the a-series, 1275 lump with minor tuning would woop a k-series and much less hassle. If you want a-series help/parts then you know where to find me

i beleive a rover V8 will bolt upto a marina (?) gearbox, and with a clubfoot front end there is enough room for it too.

a rover V8 won't bolt to a Marina box, which is RWD anyway so no use for a mini. You're thinking of the princess box, which it won't bolt up to either, but which is at least FWD. Apart from that, you are right.

Basicly I really hate A series engines with their stupid gearboxes especialy when the price of gearbox rebuild kits are silly money, for what you get. I'm not building it for speed (good job) but more for ease of maintenance and I'm quite liking the 1.1 engine in her metro as it's conventional and straight forward. Christ I sound like my dad! Quick sell me a Vtec ;D

Where's that lad who was stuffing a 1300 16v from a dead Micra into a Mini - that sounded a proper bo idea - updates?

Apart from that, you are right. oh it will bolt up to a princess box theres a v8 mini done like this by a chap called sprag i think made a custom adaptor plate etc etc anyways, if your not wanting to spend much money stick with the a series, as sticking in that k wont be easy, easier with a honda or vauxhall as there are kits to do it but cost ££££££ and will take some work all depends how far you want to go WEST

Not what I would call a 'bolt on' job... Mega impressive all the same! www.spagweb.com/v8mini/

It's certainly not easy. You'd either have to fabricate your own front sub frame or spend around 1500 notes on one of the kits. The k-series subframe available actually widens the track so mods are required to the rear also. There is a subframe available that allows you to fit a 1600 vaux engine under a std length round nose (this is the route i'm planning for my mini - one day ) </afaik> I guess the easiest/cheapest option is to just drop in another a series, although i s'pose they're not as readily available these days. check out www.16vminiclub.com/forums/ for ideas.

I'm sorry i don't like doris the fwd v8 mini, too barry for me, i much prefer the more evil sleeper created by Viku Perala, of finland, when he was messing about trial fitting his rover v8 from his speedboat! in his clubby that can be found here..... www.geocities.com/jharkola/Viku2.htmlhe also owns a metro turboed mini and a minor if anyone else is interested, just click link to his home page from v8 mini page
