My pureshield argon costs £38 a fill from BOC and around £45 a year rental, hardly thieving imho...
though to answer your Q if you just connect two bottles together the two volumes and pressures will equalise, so as long as you only ever want to divvy up 50/50 that should do fine, make sure you use a really good bit of pipe though as they come in around 120psi full iirc...

BOC contracts are getting pretty damn cheap now you now. it seems the recession has reduced demand as a lot of small garages have shut down, so less people are renting them, hence the price drop and them actively chasing the 'hobby' private customer market now. i pay £60 a year rent and £25 a fill on a size Y (i think, smaller one) argoshield light. a year ago it was over 80 a year rent and 47ish for a fill.
oh, and they do track bottle serial numbers now, to prevent theft(something that does go up during the recession!) and people doing exactly what youve described. you can get into a lot of trouble for getting caught with a hooky bottle......

I rent from BOC seems a bit steep but if you do a couple of cheap jobs for other people and they chip in soon works out.
back door, mate of a mate deals generally end up taking ages of chasing people for stuff and stress me out quite a bit. one in the bush...

The bottle is brand new from my uncles work, so its just a case of connecting them up and open the valve ? sounds good to me I don't wanna use boc as i took a brand new, fully tested bottle to them and they wouldnt fill it. i HAD to rent a bottle form them. Yeah, watch me

well of course you have rent there bottle form them for them to fill it, its how they make money! after all what would they do to the bottle when they exchange it for a full one? they would essentially have lost a bottle

Bottle to bottle transfer of argoshield is a VERY bad idea. Its stored at 230 bar. thats BAR not psi. The transfer pipe and fittings have to be able to easilly stand that much and more for safety, plus letting it flow too quickly can generate a huge amount of heat - enough to compromise fittings if you arent carefull.
If all is well, you will be fine, but the one time it goes wrong you will be smeared all over the wall.

Ive been searching on there for answers but no luck, I really don't want to join ANOTHER forum, I'm on too many as it is from their FAQ page www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=9315"Do not attempt to refill a cylinder or decant gas from one cylinder to another".click to see why not www.hse.gov.uk/foi/internalops/hid/din/538.pdfthink that's a big "NO" then Not sure what pressures are used, but think the other posts on here warning about 100+ bar (not psi) sound about right. pub co2 is a cheap option for mig, not sure if that's any help for you.. play safe, good luck getting fixed up

Try a firm called energas, i got a quote recently for a argoshield bottle, gauge, gas ect to upgrade from my pub bottle co2 and they were pricing me £60 less than boc so worth having a ring round.

Nomad is right - I've seen the aftermath of a pub Co2 bottle going, it's not pretty, you could do some serious damage. You've got technical things to think about too; keeping the decompressing bottle warmed while cooling the compressing bottle, regulating pressure and maintaining even flow as the bottle temps change. There's no way it'll be as simple as hooking one up to the other and hitting go, be very careful.

Lets clear up car terms: "Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car. "Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car. "Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence. "Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.
