eBay item, J40 pedal car body, cash on collection only. finishes in a few hours in Reading. Too far for me to go pick it up but if someone in the area could grab it and move it a bit closer, or hold on to it until a RWYB or show or something I'd appreciate it.
Cheers.

Good find! my landlord/local farmer has got one of them in pretty good nick though dusty as hell sitting in his garage where it's been for 30 years.. Had i been in and on the net I'd have gladly offered to get it, but i was working glad it's sorted though...

they fetch insane money in good original order. As much or more than a REAL A40 Devon would. If you can blag the farmer's one cheap you could make some on it easy enough.

Nice one! What's the plans? Hayabusa? ;D

LOL, plan is to use a starter motor off a diesel car or van, a 12V "leisure" battery and stick a relay in, and a press-to-make-contact switch under the accelerator pedal. Or a variable resistor of some sort, not sure how clever it needs to be. I did h ave a Briggs & Straton mower engine for this porject ages ago but decided thats probably a bit noisy for putting around the garden.

Cool!
But if you use a starter motor that would have to be one hefty variable resistor to carry that much current! You'd need some sort of power transistor setup I guess. Also I'm not sure about the durability of starter motors when used continuously???
Would it be an idea to use the running gear of a Sinclair C5? If you can find it cheaply that is... I know they're not trouble free either but the internet is full of hints and tips on how to make them work.

Would probably be easiest to use the motor and controller from an electric wheelchair/scooter...

electric wheelchair type thing is probably the answer. Starter motors get used for reverse gears on bike engined cars so might be up to the job. I would rather use electric than petrol due to the noise factor.
The J40 weighs a lot more than a C5 so I'd guess it might struggle? Dunno. My daughter is only 2 & a bit (I'm hoping to do this for he 3rd birthday in April) so it doesn't need to be that quick....
