Bought an '86 Porsche 944 in September - a sort of present for the missus.
It soon proved to have a fubar'd engine and it's taken three months to source and fit a replacement.
So I now need some 944 photos to get the enthusiasm running again. Please...

I beleive the 944 also had the gearbox at the back, where as the 924's was at the front. Obvious visual difference is the bigger bumpers and very flaired wheel arch's on the 944
|

Done quite a bit of digging on this whilst farting about with mine. Seems: 924 = narrow body 944 / 968 = wide body (and convertible)
924 = 2L Audi engine 944 / 968 = Porsche engine, ranging from 2.5 8v to 3L 16v (with turbo on some) Except... 924S, 924 Turbo, 924 Carrera = 2.5 Porsche engine
924 & early 944 = 'square dash' and steel wishbones later 944 / 968 = 'oval dash' and alloy wishbones
968 = 6 speed 'box
Plus numerous smaller differences.
So they are fairly similar, but the greater power of the Porsche engined cars seems to have given them a much healthier following.
924s are really cheap at the moment, and a real bargain in my opinion.

didnt some of the the 968's come with flappy paddle boxes..
I'm feeling the 944 love at the minute though i suspect only the turbo would have enough grunt to keep me happy long term..

Engine at front and gearbox at back = torque tube. ...Also large transmission tunnel and little boot space.

robg2, Pretty close but the 924, 924 turbo and 924 Carrera all had 2L Audi engines (although this is really an evolution of a Merc lump IIRC). The 924S was the only one with a 2.5 Porsche engine.
