Right then... been thinking (dangerous I know!)... alot of folk have been saying 'it's a long time till RCS' etc. A one-day, informal event is pretty difficult for many people to get to... so who would be up for a more 'organised' meet & greet with camping facilities when the weather perks up a bit? IMO, the ideal solution would be to find some 'hostelry' with attached paddock (for camping / showing off of rides) and / or function room (for evening activities)... pretty tall order I know, but such places must exist!! Want to gauge feeling on this as I think it could truly rock if a good number turn out. There is possiblilty of a 'public' element... but this may require a fair bit of H&S faffing. Ideas for locations and so forth (although I have a couple 'in mind') and if you like the idea. If it's 'the win' I could put the wheels in motion?

I would be very much behind this idea... as long as someone else is organising it (I've got a bit much on my plate right now)... You can use the Frappr map to get a basic idea of where people are.

great idea. a campsite might work. That way people can camp, stay in their camper, or use an on-site chalet depending on their situation/preference. Plus their would be likely be an on-site bar.

Good Idea ;D
Just a suggestion..... have a look at what events are coming up and maybe combine it with something else ? A hillclimb, classic race meet or Show ? Then we can all go to the event and camp and talk boll*x round the campfire afterwards ;D
Historic Motorsport show at Stoneleigh is coming up, but I think that might still be a tad chilly ;D
Cheers Dom

The idea was rather than combine it, make it 'stand-alone'... that way we don't 'lose' folk in the crowd, or have people paying entry to an event - just us, some ale / fizzy pop & a barbeque.
A small contribution to costs may be asked but it'd be a pretty cheap way to do things IMO.

Sounds like a GREAT idea to me! Definitely A well located campsite might be worth finding, Billing Aquadrome is fairly central but I can't remember how much it costs etc. Might be worth looking into?

If it turns into the Retro Rides SHOW, I'll do something about it... I was thinking something along the lines of a weekender somewhere fairly central, maybe at a motorsport event with communal RR camping/gathering area?? If it's more than that, and there is enough push for it, there are people I can have a word with about sorting it out properly

It sounds like a great idea*
*but I fully expect my chances of going to be scuppered by some aspect of 'normal' life regardless of when and where it is.

I'd be up for that Do Santa Pod have the 2006 events list out yet - they always have some early bird events - bar facilities etc etc - central (ish)

Hmmm yeah, Centralish is good, could handle a trip to the pod. unlikely to have a propper car before April though...
Count me in.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

If you want to 'go it alone' (i.e. just make it invited people, no flogging tickets to the general public) this would make it a LOT safer to run - anyone who remembers the old NAS-farewell events for the years leading up to the land being taken over will remember it was always a 'private' party to avoid any hassle from the cops, with compulsary donations being taken for the toilets. does anyone have any access to a bit of land? all we need to really do for a basic camping weekend is hire a portaloo which they'll deliver and collect, and someone with a truck of some sort could bring some palletes to burn. also making it a private do, instead of being on a public campsite, would avoid being hassled to 'go to bed and stop revving that bloody engine' by the family pitched next to us obviously the pod is different in this respect as people camping there are used to noise!

When it comes to all the criteria you have mentioned, Billing fits the bill, central etc. Pod just down the road and plenty of facilities. They always cater for Car things.

i agree Pillock, i was thinking earlier we need something like the old NAS events. Time of year wouldnt be a problem, they were in November i seem to remember. All it needs is us, some land, a lav, a big ole fire, and a BBQ - imho.
