Apart from having no money and a handfull of major projects. The thing that stops me buying 'tat', is a lack of storage. Having one decent project tucked away should be enough, but we all know its not! ;D Having spotted some more possible buying options (new old ratty cars) in a publication, I'm keen to see if there is any known storage, garages or space available in one of your places, or if anyone would be tempted to to go into getting a place in the year. Manchester or West yorks, or somewhere inbetween ideally for pocket money! I'd be interested to know for the future, can't stay a two car family for all of 2006! It'd also be intersted to know about others storage solutions and costs involved out of interest, for the sake of an interesting thread.

I wish I had the money to get into the rented storage space in Manchester. But it seems all the decent old Warehouses (which would have made excellent rented workshop/garage bays) are all now being "Urban Splashed". And that is a crying shame.

I'm going to need similar in newcastle/gateshead area shortly... :/ *n Try the 'Get Carter' car park in central gateshead... ;D Top five floors are empty, how cool would that be? I pay £120 a month for a five car garage with toilet and sink, that I can also park two cars outside. It took me a year to find it and I'm not giving it up easily, good garages are a nightmare to find for a hobbyist, as people generally frown on non-commercial interest or automotive activity. Good luck!

i pay £30 a month for an old pig sty big enough for 2 cars and a few parts. That sort of thing in Manchester or Halifax i'd share with someone or take on myself if i had a fully active 3rd project. Or in the future somewhere tidier for commercial venture. meatballturbo, yeah it is a crying shame, worse than that my modest home town of ex clothing factorys; Sowerby Bridge, has also become a yuppies paradise recently What on earth is going on!

That car park's going to be demolished very shortly...Hopefully not with my shuv at the top of it... *n Is there a definite date yet? I first went up there about four years ago and they were saying that it would be down in under a year... But to do so means closing down the centre of Gateshead for a couple of years. Which some may argue isn't a bad thing... It's an amazing place. Back on topic - The main thing with a rented garage is security. You're not going to be there much, whatever you think, and I lost nearly a grands worth of stuff when mine got done over. My only advice is get one where it's busy, or where it's secured at night. Insurance can be sorted out through people like Competition Car Insurance on lay up policy with tools included.

Nope. Wonder what the feasability of groups in an area setting up a proper "Club" and using club membership dues to rent a workshop. Lots of small units sit empty after companies go bust. It would need a proper structure for insurance, electric and rates, but as a non profit club you might be able to sort something. that way, you might even get a lift fitted to the premises.
Often thought about it, but never had the money or enough local contacts to do anything myself.

www.uholdthekey.co.uk/locations.htmlNorth east storage rentals. They allow cars and they allow them to be used as workshops. £30 a week for a 'mega' (40x8) unit which could easily be used by 2 people. £18.75/week for a single-garage-sized space. £60-80/month...ouch. *n

Good work penski.
Going in as a full club could be a good idea, but could also generate a few differences.
I'd be tempted to go in with a few others perhaps in the future

I Pay £50/Month for 1 parking bay in a shared unit, with electric/ water/toilet which is right behind my house ;D It has the benefit of a big open central space where you can work, but only really on jobs that can be in and out in a day Cant block it. Its secure and everyone knows everyone else, borrows stuff etc, works quite well. You think its difficult oop north, you should try finding garage space in the Southeast

I pay a quid a day for storage/workshop space for the Rambler, inc. electricity. It's out in the sticks, about 20 minutes from my house. Only trouble is the Rambler's blocked in by an Escort estate and a Fiesta van ATM... not sure what my mate's planning to do with 'em...
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
