technical Q
So, i'm taking the back panel off this weekend to get acess to the engine on my Skoda. The idea has come to us, to fit a 'plug/connector' in the electrical supply to the rear panel so that in future you can just 'unplug' the electronics and remove the rear panel without having to label them all and refit them...saving much time and making the engine a lot easier to work on.
so, it's a 12v system. so thats your voltage of the
V 6 ( 6 should be over the 2nd IxR) --- = --- IxR IxR
So...to get the right connector, which is measured by it's maximum current allowance we need to know the R...
R= VxI
is this right...or am i barking up the wrong tree? i must be, because you don't get the 'resistance of a circuit' ... can anyone correct me?
thanks.

Switch is for turning on or off You want a connector of some sort ;D (Tip:don't try and work out wiring stuff in or after the pub, its confusing enough as it is without making it worse) Go Here: www.vehiclewiringproducts.comSeek and ye shall find TIP: count how many wires you have.... it will help you choose a connector

i wouldnt have thought you'd need a switch. what you want is a male and female connector. there shouldnt be that many wires for the lights and it should all be in one harness. all you need to do is to cut the harness and match up the wires at each side. now you should be able to remove your rear panel with ease. I'm surprised its not already like that.

i meant connector, type error on my part.
i'm too tired now tbh, will look in the morning.
i get the feeling i am over complicating this...

Whats in the back panel. I guess it would only be the lights? If it is then your best bet is just to get a a plug and socket for a trailer lighting board and wire that up.

indicators, lights, reverse lights, number plate lights, fogs.

1 Yellow Left indicator 2 Blue Fog light 3 White Earth 4 Green Right indicator 5 Brown Right side light 6 Red Brake lights 7 Black Left side light
Thats the normal wiring for colours and numbers for a light board so you would need extra connectors for number plate lights and reverse lights. You could always change it so that the pin 4 gave power to all back lights and use pin 7 for the reverse lights but you are probably as well just getting a few 4 way or 6 way multiplugs and using them

You don't need to worry about current rating, all that stuff dosent relly draw alot of current so any plug will do relly.

Just noticed this normally V=I*R so R=V/I

No need to concern oneself with ohm's law here, slater pretty much sums it up I think.

trailer plug will be ideal if you have the room for it - they're naturally pretty weather-resistant for all the crud that's going to accumulate around it, and they seperate easily enough.
steer clear of anything intended for general electronics use, it's unlikely to resist the elements very well unless specifically rated as such. as long as the contacts are bigger in area than the wires leading to them, you won't overload it (as a rule of thumb - i.e. don't put big fat heavy wires into a little computer-style plug)
other than that, go scrapyard raiding for a connector of a modern eurobox for the ECU or sensors or something, these are nicely water-resistant and usually have rubber covers. make sure it's one with wires out of both halves (i.e. not directly mounted onto a engine part), lop both off with a good 6 inches of wire, join to your existing wiring with solder and heatshrink.

I say buy a scrap 8-port Hub or Switch, connect them all with Cat5 and RJ45 plugs and have the geekiest Skoda on earth.
