Yep. Got me some bits of pine, and made me some sledging device. Right start off, 100cm by 15cm length of pine. Curved the edges up. They're on those foil things to stop them getting dragged on the floor (and they're and warm and padded to sit and kneel on!) Marked out and attached batons down each side: Screwshot: Add some struttage across: Gap was left as I still need to attached the seat. Ignore the tatty bit of wood, was testing for footrest. Bit of MDF for some rigidity and another piece at the end of the slats. Front bit is footrest. Nother shot: And here I've added another bit to the front for support: Its upside down in the garage at the moment, after glueing and screwing some plastic strips to the runners, piled a few bits of wood, and board, and a 110V transformer box on top to help the glue Update tomorrow. Cheers. Matt

And its done Plastic strips down the runners. Which promptly fell off. So I'll be making some metal ones, and some sort of steering system since it was quite unpredictable on the slopes. Cheers for the comments guys Matt

Right, since more white stuff fell out of the sky, its time to fit metal runners. Started off with this metal channelling: Hammered along the creases so it'd wrap over the bottom of the runner. This was then made: Whassat? You say. Add a mallet and it does this: Hit down, off, move along, hit and so on. Then remove a shim to lessen the space, and go along again to really tighten the metal against the wood. And then some tin-snippery happened, which has left me with this: Should be less breakable now. Its getting some stencils made up, and some pinstriping in the next few days. And some handles. Taking it for a run on Tuesday. Thanks for looking. Matt

as far as steering a sledge like that you just need independant brakes ... one on either side ... simply a metal spike that digs in when you pull up or back on a handle ...

That was exactly the plan Have been thinking against it, as my feet seem to work well enough.

Whereabouts in York do you live? The GF and I rent in Tang Hall about 2 minutes from Morrissons. I'm away at uni at the moment though

Cheers Paul! Frink, creepy as it may sound, I know where you live This is evident by the cars I've seen on your drive, and confirmed by the Google Streetview image you posted aaaaages ago. I'm off Hull Road, near the Black Bull, so pretty close to you If you have seen this idiot, on this device up at the uni, then it was me.

I have moved to Fourth Avenue now, except I dropped out of york uni a few years ago and now I'm doing car design at Coventry, so I'm only in York during weekends and holidays.
The Black Bull is a weird place. I used to live in Badger Hill so I would frequent it occasionally.
