Well spotted Kyteler. Engines in Japan are a moot point. As I understand it, by law, the Japanese are not allowed to swap engines. And the huge body kits and tea tray spoilers come from the racing Nissans. In the link I posted there's a historic Nissan day gallery that shows the racing Nissans that spawned the style. I was also told that the MOT in japan was insanely hard to pass, and it's often easier and cheaper to just sell there's to us get another car.... and that's why we get so many new, cheap bits of j' tin over here...

HotWire: thanks for the 'History/reason why' TommyG: Yes I used to believe that but I'm not so sure as there does appear to be a lot of old cars in Japan (Such as what goes to the 'Hot Olds' Meet) plus theres all these customs So perhaps the 'claim' that the Japs have a strict M.O.T is very open to question Perhaps it's the same situation as the Motorbikes in Switzerland...they have strict 'construction and use' regs but nobody abides by them ;D.

I think there's a lot fo confusion regarding Japanese laws, I know of a few cars for instance that have RB26's swapped into them, both C10 and C110 variants as well as an S30 with the full Atessa 4WD system. I have heard several different stories as to why there's supposedly low numbers of old cars, but the fact there's still bundles of them judging by car meet photo's etc they could all be wrong.
It would be nice to have the situation clarified anyway.
