See this: are those wheels standard? They look like this closer up: I have a suspicion they were fitted to 90-spec XR3i's as standard but can't find anything to confirm it yet (I've got a pile of ford brochures from that era SOMEWHERE ;D ). Anyone know? Also, do they have a proper name? They aren't the same as the Sapphire Cosworth ones, they're 14" and the Cossies are 15". Ta

I'm not 100%, but i think they were just an option as an alternative to the standard XR3i items. I don't know what the proper name for them is though, they're usually just reffered to as "cossie style alloys" I'm sure someone on here will know....... Smiler?

no there not, the standard wheels are the double 5 spoke rim, with the spokes at an angle ;D

Cheers! I asked on ClubGTI (there are a few Ford fans on there) and it seems that they were fitted to late 89/90 XR3is. Only name that anyone can come up with is "lattice" - like you said reanimation

Hah hah I've just put them all back! I'll have a look again later for you The last Ford catalogue I have is August 1989 - which shows the XR3i with the doglegs. Damn! Only a few months out, I bet the lattice ones appeared about November or something

That's a nice example. The '90' spec ones are the ones to have, so I'm told. My Mk4 had standard Xr3i doglegs, and then later RST wheels + kit & '90 spec interior. Shame it had a 1300hcs engine, 4-on-the-floor and was rotten as a pear

Yeah, it's like 90-spec Mk2 Golfs - the VW/Ford hot hatch arms race was in full swing that year!

yes they definately are 1990 wheels....
but are they options? I'm sure i saw some late mk4 XR3i's with wheeltrims - and not just one, i've seen a few cars with the same trims. they were late-spec ones too, with the restyled front bumper.
remember it wouldn't be that 'povvo' - plenty of Golf GTIs had steelies with centrecaps, even big-bumper models.

THis thread is delving into some SERIOUS deep-geekery Just how I like it! I don't know Pillock, I know alloys were optional on earlier 3i's (and so was black paint!) but dunno about the 90 speccers. No catalogue from that year you see

i've been delving round t'internet but not many pics of the very late ones, and i just got sidetracked by a fantastically geeky Fiesta history site. they were definately late ones with wheeltrims (different grille/bumper, and rear spoiler)... i'm just trying to remember what the trims themselves were like. i love the geeky stuff, and late 80's/early 90's is my kind of era. Darren - this is of zero help right now but i know you'll appreciate www.rs-ford.co.uk/brochures.php

The original wheels pictured are 15" Saphire Cosworth Alloys. I have a set of these I'll be selling in spring.

Werent the trims white in colour? They had maybe 8 or so holes around the ouside IIRC..
Like i was saying earlier, I'm sure those wheels were an option, because even the twin spoke XR3i alloys were an option on the mk4's.
If you went for the XR3i at the dealership and didnt tick any of the optional extras you would be driving away with wheeltrims.
