Oh look, a disappointing thread due to vague title. This is in fact not cool at all. Am I the only one that hates it when people put a rubbish topic title up like 'CHECK THIS OUT', or 'worth anything ' 'Got me sniggering.' or whatever, instead of a clue to whats in the topic. A lot of the time its stuff I've seen , and If it WAS something truly interesting, how am I going to find it again in a few months time with a title like 'Mmmmmm....' or 'Help finding car' Come on people, I bet your ebay titles are a little better thought out so please apply some effort here. Hopefully THIS pants topic will be the last we get duped into viewing!

I had titled that thread you are refering as anall sax or being bagggerrd, as the word search here edits it, I had to change it.... hope that helps you. The system would not let me type the title of the actual clip . The best thing to do though.... that is if you see a title you do not like, is just to ignore it, they go away soon enough. At least thats what I do, sometimes probably at my own loss.

being on an incredibly slow dongly connection, i agree. better title would help me file them into 'cool/up my street' or 'not interested' without a big wait for the thread to actually load....

I feel cheated by this post , and quite like the element of surprise in some of the others. See what you mean about searching for stuff though but the only way I can reliably track stuff is by bookmarking it, can't see the wood for the trees type affair.

Dunno whether to comment, or make a thread about people making threads that offer nothing but whining.

Now it's time for my proper reply.
I find that subjects like that can be a hidden blessing (no pun intended). As human beings we can get stuck in a rut sometimes, and only look at things that already interest us.
Something entitled "how cool is this?" may pique my interest and get me to open a thread. The thread content could be something I've found myself uninterested in due to narrow mindedness, or just not seen the right thing.
Let me give you a hypothetical example, as I might be rambling: ________________________ subject: OMG MEGA (sorry for the curse word example title, but you get the gist) Content: <Images of a beautiful, tastefully modified Scimitar.>
My reaction: oh, wow - that looks really good. Maybe I shouldn't have dismissed these off the cuff after all ________________________________ situation 2, however: ________________________________ Subject: Scimitar Love Content: same as above
My reaction: meh.. Scimitars. *continue browsing without clicking* ________________________________
It all depends on the forum visitor though, I suppose. Those scenarios may have the reverse effect on some of you.

Oh my God, I so cant believe you just said that! Sometimes the titles do give a bit of 'ohh, I wonder what this is' and others can be rubbish. Its a bit 6 of one thing and half a dozen of another if you ask me.

Thanks Grizz & scoob ! Sorry mate, been stuck in the house since Saturday, and except for a trip less than a mile to the GP and back via pharmacy, I have truely been indoors. Being off sick aint no fun, and trust me I hate the concept of being off work, as it implies that one should not be out in the garage grinding, welding and having fun. Even Nicola has given me a wide berth the last few days

I agree with datman and replying to bump the post. Thread titling is usually very good here though.

I think this problem could be overcome to a certain extent by better classification of the threads. The problem with having a 'General' board is that the 'general concensus' is that you can post anything on here including even non car related discussion and material. Evidence is the number of threads that get locked or/and moved. Having said that it's not as bad as a lot of forums I've been on but that don't make it right either. My personal 'pet hate' threads are the ones that exist purely for 'eye candy' purposes only with no discussion thread happening at all. What's the point when the internet is awash with car pics anyway? Folks can only take so much instant gratification before the boredom factor sets in.

I only occasionally use ambiguous titles...and that's only when its purely eye candy content nd that's to draw people in. Otherwise, my titles are boringly straight-up.
But...relax Will, it doesn't really matter enough to worry does it?

THIS is the most disappointing thread I've ever looked at. I don't understand why people put in so much effort moaning over something so trivial

The problem with having a 'General' board is that the 'general concensus' (really?? MM) is that you can post anything on here including even non car related discussion and material. Evidence is the number of threads that get locked or/and moved. Having said that it's not as bad as a lot of forums I've been on but that don't make it right either. 3) If it’s not about cars, don't post itSeems pretty simple and clear to me! My personal 'pet hate' threads are the ones that exist purely for 'eye candy' purposes only with no discussion thread happening at all. What's the point when the internet is awash with car pics anyway? Folks can only take so much instant gratification before the boredom factor sets in. I guess this one comes down to personal preference (unlike the point above ) but I really like it when people pull in images from blogs and other websites. I'm a very visual person and really enjoy it when people like Samm, dbizzle, Stiff etc....share what they find with the RR community. I'm not very good at finding random blogs or websites (in fact I am useless!), but these guys are very good at it and their visual contributions enrich the site enormously with diverse and wide ranging images that have really broadened my understanding of the motor car and associated cultures around the world. Without their regular postings with images from different blogs they have found from around the world, I wouldn't have the broad minded approach to cars that I do today. Sure, venturing into Readers Rides is a fantastic lesson in diversity but look deeper at the material that these guys provide and that horizon line is widened ten fold. My desire to get out to Japan 100% stems from this site, so does my recent taking up of photography, my want to start a blog of my own.....all based around the visual element that these guys provide. I always look forward to posts like Samm's where it is just photos to make you go WOW (or question a particular style) and I hope it long contines to broaden my horizon. They also make for excellent 'right click, save' moments when looking for ideas/inspiration for future projects. My fave thread of the year was one where the original post contained nothing more than one photo and a link. My own thread 'No Rhyme, No Reason' which specifically requests no words was a reaction to some recent posts at the time where a great post was runied by pointelss and off topic banter, neither of which added to or enhanced the original thread in any way. Every now and then I like looking at a picture on a wall. It needs no intorduction, it needs no explanation. That's what pictures do.

Is Ok Mystery.... Is like you said .... IS only a personal preference. You were honest in your thread title so consequently I knew that it wasn't something I would benefit from or want to contribute to. All I'm sayin' is that with a more detailed classification system we could maybe even have a 'Gallery' section where discussion is forbidden and the content is strictly 'eye candy' only.
Judging by the response you got to your thread I am in the minority.... which is ok by me cos I'm pro diversity but.... would just make life easier for all of us if you could index the threads you have a particular interest in.
Recently... to save time... I've just been looking where Norm posts.... seems to take me straight to all the interesting threads. ;D
