Have been using the Triumph 2000 estate as regular transport for a while now, and have noticed a some "odd" driving by other folk on the roads. I normally cruise around 65 on dual carrigeways so often catch up with new (less than 20 years old ;D) cars rolling at 55mph. Several recently have waited until I've pulled out to overtake, then once I'm alongside (and they see what old wreck is passing them) they accellerate from 55 to 80 Quesions : WHY ? Is it just me have some pice of the offending vehicle, in case it explains anything (black roof is new)

Its normal - many people seem unable or unwilling to drive consistantly above 60mph, so when you catch them doing a steady 70, they will speed up to prevent themselves being passed by an old car. Quite often you pass them, they pass you then slow down again, you pass them, they ass you and slow down again, creating an irritating leapfrog situation due to their inability to regulate their speed. This sort of situation was exactly the buildup that led to my only "real" roadrage event, which involved a screwdriver brandished in an angry manner.

What I found even worse was the morons that will do it when you're overtaking on a normal road - thus preventing a safe manuever. Really, really ******* me off that does.
....but yea, it's not uncommon, at all.

lol yeah, don't have to a retro car, or even an old car, if they view it as inferior to their own they will not like the thought of being passed, even if they were happy at 55mph before.
To this day i cant explain. Think it's just people stuck solid in their own little bubble of their own fantasticness! lol

Used to get this all the time when driving lorries. I recon in many cases people go into a sort of "trance" when driving on long stretches of dual carriageways or while on motorways and lose concerntration, allowing their speed to drop, as you pull out to overtake they spot you and suddenly "wake up", increasing their speed and preventing you from getting round.
I have noticed cases where folk actively prevent you from getting round, seemingly because youre in an old car. Got it all the time in my mk1 fezza. I remember on the M6 I overtook a granada doing 60 and had to get up to 90 to actually get round him, and that was only because he got boxed in behind a lorry.
Worth noting I never had a problem in the Allegro!

I really have noticed this recently. I've got quite a respectable 2008 Alfa 159, which other drivers seem to find of a high enough quality to be over taken by. The same cannot be said of my 5 series. The thing is my 5 series looks like a slightly rough e28 518i but it's m535i so if you're in a 2004 Vectra Tdi you're not going to outpace it going down a sliproad. It doesn't stop them trying though. It's very weird.

This is what some bloke was doing to me Friday morning on the M54 in a VW LT28. I must have passed him 3 times and he kept booting it past and slowing down. He had a pretty loaded van it seemed stuff cramming up the windows, i had around 25ton of milk on, i soon got past him when we got to a bit of a climb and his VW failed epicly down to about 45mph and i kept a nice 56, Ovlov FTW ;D

I guess the only answer for the leapfrog effect is to do it to them too. Give it the beans as soon as they indicate.
But with my AX it's more a case of most people feeling the need to overtake despite a reasonable speed, without me overtaking first. The time it really p'ed me off recently was late on a country road. A white van man was so busy getting in my boot and flashing me that he didn't even notice there was an overtaking lane starting as soon as he got behind me!

We get loads of thumbs up for both the bus and Myrtle on the road.
However, I have experienced the knobs who accellerate just as you come past them, and they wake up.
Another pet peeve is cars that shut the door on bikes on the road, especially in thick traffic, not just the sort of ooopps, drifted into your way, but rather the obvious pull over an shut the door type. I live and work in a car, every day, and see this happening often .

I agree with the "trance" theory. Its so annoying to catch someone when you have the cruise control set to 70 and they are doing 60-65 but as you pass they speed up... So you have to speed up too, kinda negating the point of cruise control, but meh.
This happens in retros and moderns. The effect is more noticable when driving older cars for some reason.

I also support the trance theory.
Don't even start me on the stress of trying to use cruise control on the motorway, I need distronic!

Generally get a pretty good vibe on the road. Two things that annoy me are people will pull out right in front of you which is really sensible when you're driving a car with 65 year old brakes, the second is when you're waiting to pull out they'll slow down to a get a look and all the traffic bunches up and you can't get in. Sometimes wait for ages I think the worse thing is motorway fly-by's. I don't get it done to me in the Anglia but I first got it when I drove my Ford Pop on the motorway. People cut in VERY close in front of you and Vw Graeme on here used to get it as well. I used to think it was people misjudging their speed against a car doing less than 60 but I get it in my hotrod as well when I'm sat at 80. Seems to be a deliberate game to see how fast and close you can buzz the old car, usually status cars like BMWs and Audis, but it's effing dangerous at speed I tell you.

:)It's actually got slightly better for me. When I first started to drive RWD Skodas approx 20 years ago Skoda really were the butt of all the car jokes....they still are to a lesser degree, but back then Skodas to the average guy on the street were just seen as curse word and in the way basically! I've been cut up A LOT in the past, but less so in recent years.
