I must demand that you get out into your freezing garage while I sit in my toasty warm lounge and do more work so I have more pics to drool over! LOL . Sorry boss, dinner break! Thanks for the kind words This cold weather is a nightmare from a garage mojo point of view innit. Its unappealing enough to put the newspaper and bag of sweets down of an evening without the ambient workshop temp being -272.5 deg C. I just went to M+S to get some thermal long johns (legitimate garage expense) but it was shut! Once i drag myself out and get going,i don't find it too bad. I find a tidy up usually helps get me started. So much of your car is newer than '77. I reckon it must be some sort of change over hybrid....It has the electronic ign and the newer dash, and i've seen old photos of it with the original grill and bumpers and it didn't have the rectangular glass over the lights, yet it has the old vinyl seats and interior, but no speakers in the doors......odd. Anyway,on to todays progress, which was a bit frustrating as i didn't seem to be able to lay down a good weld all day! I cleaned the steel as best as possible, cleaned the earth clamp, changed the tip, messed with the settings....i hope the welder isn't packing up! Pics.....Bottom couple of bits in,with a load of waxoil as the next piece starts to box things in Central piece in....covered this in weld through primer. Maybe this isn't helping the welding?? From the back Sill piece back on....looks a real mess in the pic,but it's not ground down properly, and a trim piece goes over this,so a skim of gobbo and all will be well! with a small repair to the back lower section And the back end boxed in and an extra patch On to the back of the chassis rail to repair this... Usual thing....chop out, weld in. Thanks for looking

I gotta say Mark,i don't know how you guys who have units elsewhere to work on your cars summon up the mojo to go to them at all at the end of a working day,it's so easy when it's just outside. It was ok in the Summer, but at the moment, it's just a total nightmare. I have the use of the place for free, which is great (I had to pay to have floor put in etc). If it wasn't for that, I would be renting a place much closer. Currently looking for a big garage to rent that has a house attached.

House with big garage is the way to go..... I'm looking to win the lottery first though which is slowing things down somewhat!
Nice work on the Beta, looks like it's coming along nicely.

Great work. It didn't look too bad when you took the carpets out but I guess thin and holed steel is easy diguised behind surface rust. You'll have some fun in it come summer. Not a big fan of the 3 spoke wheels but given the cracking wheels you;ve got on Toyota I'm sure you'll find the right wheel for the car.

Yours can be sharpened with the edge of a grinding wheel. If you google you can see how to to do or how to actually make one from an old 8mm drill bit too. -Steve Far too much messing about for me! ;D No weldy weldy tonight, just choppy choppy.....On the front half of the sill. Chopped out and cleaned Top left of the cut.....so that's where all the last bloke's welding wire got to!! Finish cleaning and start welding tomorrow. Gonna have to make a new sill piece though as the piece i chopped out is a bit crappy. I'm going to try and utilise a pair of sills i have for a Toyota Corona, unfortunately not the model Corona i own though!

Does waxoyl stink nice when you hit it with the welder?

Ouch those inner sills were a surprise, & having to redo previous repairs is always annoying.

Does waxoyl stink nice when you hit it with the welder? Yeah, and it catches fire nicely too ;D Ouch those inner sills were a surprise, & having to redo previous repairs is always annoying. The annoying thing is,the previous repairs wouldn't have been too bad if he'd have cut the rust out I'm just going to take the whole sill covering off the otherside rather than mess about. It's bound to be as bad.

I've come late to this thread thanks to Marcus' thread in Betaboyz. Impressive stuff so far. I wish my progress was so quick. Those seats you took out are the face lift ones not the orinals. The original trim in a 77 should look like this (though a bit less tatty) I've got a pair on 78 Spiders and they're both the same trim but tnere are a numer of differences suggesting chnage was pretty constant through their life. TBH it probably depended on what Zagato had lying around at the time !

Crumbs, be careful you don't set the job on fire, my mate had a few close shaves when welding waxoyled metal! I have constant visions of him frantically huffing and puffing into the sills through a little gromit hole in the wheelarch! Neat work though

I was almost going to suggest it might actually be a '78-81 s3/s2FL since fitting all those bits wouldn't have been easy. Looks like you have the later fuse box, Dash mounting brackets are different on the body and I'm not sure 1977's would have space to properly mount the speakers as Lancia did in the later door hinge pillars: the hinge pillar sheet metal was revised to add a large bump to accommodate them & the inner panel also revised with a large round hole & mounting holes. One of my parts HPE was a late'78(?) pre facelift S2 which managed to get the bump in the outer hinge pillar but not the holed inner to allow the speaker to be fitted & I assume was a transitional model.

TBH it probably is '78,i think i typed '77 out of habit as i've previously owned 2 '77 's' plate cars before.
I suppose i ought to look at the reg document! ;D
