I bought the wheels turbotipo had for sale ( the 3 RH ad cups) and set about refurbishing them and he suggested I put up a post about the progress. pics are fairly poor I'm afraid my phone camera is pretty rubbish
so here's how they looked when I bought them partially stripped of paint and in need of some TLC
Ive never polished anything before so had a quick go, starting off with 80 grit then 100 and moving up to 1000 and 1200 (wet sanding) 40 mins on one lip resulted in ..
I repeated the process on another one as the plan is to get two done and then source a fourth or maybe save for a pair of 15x8 for the rear of the MX5
A suggestion from my mum of all people was to use a brillo pad on the lips and I was shocked that it actually worked resulting in an almost mirror finish.
I stripped the remaining paint narrowly avoiding chemical burns and I was left with this
and today I threw some primer on the centers and painted them in Honda Sebring silver ( left over paint from my prelude )
and I'm fairly chuffed with the end result even so I'm thinking or re-sanding the centers and repainting again I'm also waiting on getting my dremel back from a mate so I can tidy up the edges of the wheel a little
total costs
wheels: 35.00
sand paper: 2.00
Paint stripper: 4.99
Primer and paint: Free ( came with my old prelude when I bought it )
Finger tips: needing new ones
