i've been browsing retrorides for a while now, since i decided to get myself a w123. so thought i'd just say hello its an '82 e280 and my first reaction is its awesome, having just sold a '99 vw passat 1.8 20v sport, i thought it might be something of a shock, but i was willing to deal with that. But even tho its 17 years older, its just as good, if not better ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) got it as a non runner, its solid, nothing to be worried about, few little issues, like a new drivers seat amongst other things, but shes gonna be my daily, so not going to be doing a full resto, i want an older one to do that on. ![](http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt311/mckeownj/merc1.jpg) ![](http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt311/mckeownj/merc2.jpg) probably go for a nice stance on some period wheels, (which is in the wanted section if anyone can help me out) hopefully i can be as useful to people as they can to me, my real project is my bike, its about 50% ready, big changes hopefully in time for next summer, not very retro, and definatly portrays a slightly different image lol ![](http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt311/mckeownj/31072009416.jpg)

Welcome. You can't go far wrong with a 123 merc when it comes to running an older car. Your bike looks mental in a good way. That back wheel looks like a car alloy.

Welcome to RR! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Your W123 looks really good, I like silver on them. Is it up and running now, or is there still work to do?

the merc is up and running, friend of mine works in a mercedes porsche and bmw specialist, and he sorted it out for £45, which is a bargin, he just said it needed a tune up, but its running lovely now,
he said might be worth replacing the dizzy and leads to keep things sweet.
been working on it today, trying to lower it, but the spring compressors i have don't appear to be suitable, so its back to the drawing board.
And the rear wheel on the bike is a car alloy, fitted with a 210 metzeler. its a honda vfr swing arm which is 4 stud, 4x100, so after getting a suitable spacer machined, it was pretty straight forward, few other bits to finish it tho

Conventional spring compressors don't work on a lot of Mercedes cars. There is a special tool which fits inside the spring to compress it. Or one can be made - UtterPiffle on here made his own. Or if you're slightly daft like I am, you can remove the springs without a compressor at all using a trolley jack, unbolting the lower wishbone and very gingerly lowering the jack whilst positioning yourself well outside the "flight path" of the spring, should things go wrong. ;D

probably go for a nice stance on some period wheels, (which is in the wanted section if anyone can help me out) Plus a tasteful sidestripe? ![](http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp238/labsmajor/3b22_3.jpg) ![](http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp238/labsmajor/3429_3.jpg) Welcome aboard.

Welcome! Great looking 123. I miss mine massively. I just about managed to get the front springs out of my w123 with regular spring compressors. It was frightening! As for retro wheels, don't just search for MB, most of which will be late model oem reps. Some '70s and '80s larger fords used 5x112 though the center bore is smaller than mb, also anything that goes on a bay or t25 vw bus will go straight on. I used to have MWS BRM replicas for a bay bus on my old w123: ![](http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s262/markbognor/DSC00049-2.jpg) Heres some ideas from ebay: Slots, only a pair unfortunately. Probably once graced a MK1 Granada. These would look the absolute business polished and under a low merc. US pcds will be easier to find - I suppose you could re-drill to 5x112 between the existing holes. BRMsCarlton Gsi OK these are 5x110, but can be made to fit. Perhaps with some assistance from accross the channel? mark, are you using the power of suggestion in your last pic? ;D bottom one is mine, for the info of our new friend, and doesnt wear those rims, or ever has in anger. cant drive it with them on because i lowered it too far (for those particular wheels) and the front arches sit on the top of the tyres. it will roll again, just need to sell my SEC and haul it out of hibernation. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Wow, I knew you intended to bring the 123 back out dave, but didn't realise that it would mean finding a new home for the sec.
How about some of ranger bobs arches on the 123, with the rear wheels spaced out some. Oil cooler hung off the front and a duck tail spoiler on the back?

i have a plan of how i want it to look, but I'm not letting on. SEC would have to go because i couldnt justify having 3 cars all taxed, tested and insured. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

i'd like some bbs's but they are a little on the dear side for a good set of split rims, i was thinking wires too, but again cant find anyone in the uk that does them, shipping from us is like $700, and with the rims being around $400, plus tyres its an expensive affair.......... ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)
