Hi people, I came across this amazing forum a few weeks ago and just registered.
I've been on the Smart car scene for a few years, having built the world's first A series 1275GT powered Smart car, so I guess that makes me some kinda retro rider or plain freak!!!
I'm no stranger to modifying cars, having built seven Mini's and two Mk1 Escort's and been around Civic's, Corolla GT's and general interesting retro cars!
Anyway, I'm planning some sort of project car next year so getting some cool ideas from you lot!!
See you around.
Ps. If you fancy popping along to the Ace Cafe on the 10th of April 2010 for a huge Smart car meet, feel free! They do great chilli chips there!!

Welcome aboard. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) There's a guy in my town with a bike engined (Hiyabusa IIRC) Smart car that a freind of mine has been in. He said it was mental, as can be expected! I quite like 'em to drive. Fun and nippy. I'd like to do one something along these lines: ![](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2520/3870594223_306409d8c2.jpg)

Cheers!
I'm planning some sort of Smart next year, possibly a rat rod style with a V8 up front in an extended chassis, or a rear engined set up again but with a VW beetle lump or Mazda rotary in a Baja stylee!
What the maddest thing you can think of to put in a Smart car??

I love that. A smart with a clutch, that's something I've never seen before. How did it come about? Did you have a smart with a broken engine and an engine with a broken mini and just thought to put the 2 together? It's just such an odd mix it's brilliant.
I like the idea of a v6 smart car along the lines of the mid engined Clio v6. Some of the modern v6 engines (especially the one in the mazda mx-3) are pretty compact.

Mate, the idea is to put a modern engine in an old car - you got it the wrong way round! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I was hoping your name meant a Ferrari engined Marina, hence Ferrina... But the Smini will do ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Cheers! What the maddest thing you can think of to put in a Smart car?? I'm sure I read somewhere Years ago about fitting a 500ci Cadillac v8 from a 70 Eldorado into the back of a beetle. That would give the smart more than 10x it's capacity! As it's designed for front wheel drive it sounded straight forward. Ish! Struggling to find it now though ( using my phone ) EDIT: apparently the website has been down for years, but can be found on the web archive. Looking at it now it seems crazy! Apparently someone else done the same thing with a 412 estate! The instruction start here: web.archive.org/web/20021212201029/www.wsu.edu/~426hemi/stepone.htmlStep 5 link doesn't work but can be found here: www.volksrods.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24247![](http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/ww283/bigalan/photo-40.jpg)

Ferrina comes from my wifes genius meaning "little Ferrari" when I had my Smart Roadster back in 2003!!!
The Smart1275GT came about when I wanted a manual Smart to play with for shows, so at the time, I had a 1989 Metro GTa (Like an MG) which was like a rotten pear. I took the engine out of that and shoehorned it into the dead engined Smart I picked up.
Since then there is a 2.0L MR2 powered hill climber and in the pipeline a 1.4 TDi version from an Audi A2. There's loads of bike powered ones, but like some said earlier, I did it the wrong way round!!!
So the next project car will be just a bigger, powerful engine, with a manual gearbox. I've almost decided to do a K series FWD version, taking a Rover Metro front subframe, an MGF 1.8 VVC K series and bolt the whole thing on the front!!

Ferrina comes from my wifes genius meaning "little Ferrari" Had me scared New Man, because phonetically that would mean "breakfast cereal" around the granola and Birkenstock crowd! ;D Welcomes. Glad to hear you're going for TORQUE this new build.
