Hi folks, I'm bored of this outaside, cold and wet business. So......
I'm thinking get rid of shonky car port and get a proper timber building put up. By get I mean i'd have to put it up.
But whats the rules?
Timber temp structure doesnt need permission of any sort right?
any provisos on that, I.e. must be flat roof or under a certain size or anything?
All advice appreciated. Off the top of my head I'm thinking about 18ft bt about 10ft base.

to replace a car port you say? if its a 3 sided structure, you can get away with a lot more than if its a full structure. if you left up the carport roof and just boxed in 3 sides, all youve essentially done is put up 3 fences- but if they're on/close to property boundaries, theres a 6' hight limit for those without having planning permission.
'the whole timber temporary construction' thing can get a bit iffy though. if its tied into an existing building, it becomes part of it- say a timber framed conservatory. if its freestanding, its generally ok, providing it doesnt block light(say if its on your drive at the side of the house and it blocks light into your neighbours drive/kitchen window or something). i cant remember if putting it up on a concrete base counts as foundations or not though. if it does, it then isnt temporary anymore so needs permission.
this is all going from memory when i looked into it 5 years ago though....

Hi stinkwheel, You need to look at the General Permitted Development Order - probably Schedule 2, Part 1 for you. www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1995/Uksi_19950418_en_1.htmThese are the 'rules' for putting a building up without planning permission - as dez says things change when you are connected to a building, but the material i.e. timber - has little bearing on the permission or not.
