If it's anything like a metro (Which I'm pretty sure it is) then you can individualise it, so you can pump each corner up as much or as little as you want. But it's not really a great way of changing ride heights. My main experience of hydro ride height adjustment is from the system as fitted to Allegros, is the Rover 100 era system significantly different? On an Allegro it was very effective. Remember the idea here is not to permanently jack it up monster truck style but to simply give it a temporary bit of extra height to help it over rough stuff when needed.

Is it possible to re-plumb? Yes, but it's a PITA. We did it once, replacing rusty Allegro pipes with Acorn plastic plumbing. The official pump uses a vacuum to purge the air, we didn't have that so bleeding it was a painful process. You can however pump fluid in/let fluid out at will.

I think that's a tad more extreme than I was looking for ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I have a friend who rolled an MGF quite severely at speed and ended up in a ditch. He walked away, so as a result I have a lot of confidence in the strength of the screen surround. For that reason for a trial car I'd not fit a cage. It's not the same risk as Baja racing ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I think it would also get in the way of bouncing up and down over the rear wheels.
