I too drive an auto. It's a great box in mine, you really can drive it quite sportingly! The box that is, the rest of the car may not comply. Muhha! <doffs cap and wonders off> All hail to the auto!

my dads peugeot was an automatic. i quite liked being able to put my foot to the floor and leave it there knowing that the car would do the rest whilst still letting it scream to the redline

My e30 cab is an auto and its great lazy driving and using daily for work. Makes it so much easier to eat and drink when driving haha But to be honest if i only had one car it would have to be a manual.....

not the same tho is it....just, not as involving weighing in at around a ton and a half, and with the handling characteristics of the QE2 theres not really much to get involved in. its excellent for my 25 mile, mind numbing, stop start journey to work.and you cant fault it on the motorway.

Agreed with TonyCC, autos are great - kind of weird how engine rev's don't relate to road speed same as manual, but you get used to that. Involving, but in a different way. And there is something fantastic about dawdling along at low speed, planting your foot, getting some kickdown and zooming off without doing any hard work.

Ok, Ok.... I heartily agree that luxo-barges should always be connected to a slush box.
But what of those old giffers dawdling to the shops once a week in their spackaautomatic triumph toledo / rover 213 / nissan micra shoving out 13bhp at the wheels etc. P1ss-boiling! ;D
ps. lovin' the new sig pic! n-d-n = dirrrty!

I agree - an auto NEEDs an engine that call pull/push it. There is nothing and I mean nothing worse than a Mini 850 Automatic. Absolute cacky pants. 51mph in top with the engine screaming its tits off and acceleration measured in days. I had one for six weeks until I gave to a traveller who ended up burning it out on the local playing field. Best thing for it too...
Ever driven a Rover SD1 manual? The WORST change of any gearbox (except perhaps the 6-speed jobbie in a Lotus Carlton) in the world. The original 3-speed slush in the SD1 is fantastic - plus it suits the car.
On of the cars on my list of cars to own is a Senator 24v - but it must be an auto. Its such a superb change, I doubt if anyone could change up faster with a manual box (in sport mode).

Autos? Lovely - especially in TopTaff's 244DL.... but then again, I'm past the 40 mark. The beige 240 (pictured at the last RR Swansea meeting) had a five-speed and was 'orrible.
And to celebrate the fact it's an auto', there's a proper tartan rug in the back....

Our Volvo V70 is an auto and the diesel engine suits it perfectly. The 300lb/ft means it pulls very well without needing to change down. The box is perfectly suited to motorways and sits lovely at 2000rpm at 70mph in 5th with is right in the middle of all the torque.

tonycocacola in da house: id like to point out, that on occasion, I'm fully able bodied and i drive an auto.
Me want auto to!!!!
For 2 years I had a Brabus Smart and about 90% of the time it was driven in "auto mode" and I'm not ashamed of it!! After driving cars for almost 30years I feel like a decent auto box is the only way to go.....

Its such a superb change, I doubt if anyone could change up faster with a manual box (in sport mode). i had a 2 litre carlton auto, and its the same box.good in economy, fantastic in sport. as you'll all have picked up this post is a bit tongue in cheek, and i too hate titchy old giffers cars with autos. gotta be a barge to get away with it. i keep a pair of tweed slipper in the merc for motor way journeys, put the glock into "D", wheel her up to 80, stick the cruise on and put my feet up on the puffet with a henri winterman and a bottle of dr pepper. ;D n-d-n is a fox, even if I'm nearly old enough to be her dad! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D oh and brian, the pentas arent on cos the front ones don't fit in the arches.waiting till the bad weathers gone and I'm gonna get some lower profiles.
