Hey people,
Merry Xmas and all that, excuse me for the lack of post's on here lately, been busy with work, with both the day job and freelance journo work.
I'm supposed to be getting a 2.0 Manta next week, road rally slag in yellow, 400 grp bonnet, covered in mud, very tatty but the IDEAL car to learn RWD antic's in. It is the ltd edition one with quad lights and recaro interior.
If I was to break it, are the lights, interior etc etc worth anything?
It is all road legal so I have got the ideal winter hack, it has rally tyres too, bonus for the weather conditions we've been having lately!

Don't break it unless its really bad, there are only around 1200 Mantas of all types left on the roads, keep it, it getting a rare car, I mean how often do you see one on the road?
However, to answer the question if it is bad, the lights if in good condition will be worth up to about £75 depending on the reflectors and who made them, the interior is worth up to £100 IF its mint, normal wear and tear, £50. Mechanical bits are pretty much worth what you can get for them, wings doors etc and glass the same.

Jesus! You have your work cut out there mate. Basically I've bought it to master the art of RWD, I've competed in an MGB at Lydden but it was a taster of how much fun drive from the rear is in the wet and now I want more.
I has a 1.8 diff and getrag box, I'm only going to keep it for a short while, try and sell it to a rally boy in Ireland maybe?

Luckily, I wont be doing much to it, a mate is getting it, all I'll be doing is getting the roof lining and glass back in so he came trailer it home... Mind you, mine are just as ambitious.... ;D This was wrapped into a Lampost and I've had to cut the entire side out to replace it.. This the extent of the rot in the front footwell, area of the Black Manta B I'm rebuilding..one hell of anole... ;D

Has anyone got some links for the Irish rally boys? I'll generate interest over their way first think.

Getrag box, does that mean anything to you? I know the diff is from a 1.8, It has Willwood 4 pots too.
Has anyone used a welded diff in a road car? I want to get this one zapped but on the other hand I don't want it to be a dog to drive!

They were all Getrag, but the 1.8 one has other uses ;D What 2.0 engine is it ? is it the CIH (Big steel rockercover) ? or a 2.0 family 2 (Alloy Cam cover as seen in thousands of Cavaliers).... Mantas are Ace for learning RWD in, really stable in a slide, one with a locked diff would be fun in the wet ;D Just don't change down as you turn in or Trail brake it into the corner, as it will oversteer under power AND under decell ;D

i have a welded diff in my road car, its fine. don't listen to scare stories about them killing you. its not obviously as sedate as an open diff or lsd, but it does a great job with a small scarficie.
scrubs tyres a little faster than normal, reduces your turning circle, and on high speed fast sweeping bends in the wet it would want to understeer now and then, ive never had that though personally. and never had any scary moments with them.
i don't spose anywhere on the box it says which model getrag it is. there was a few different model getrags used i think

Bigwig, I sure am a Manta nutter, so far I've had 2 rotten 1.8 Hatches, 5 GTE Coupes, 1 Berlinetta, 1 GTE Hatch and now the Mk1 Cav, nearly the same thing. Both the 1.8 and 2 litre versions have the same Getrag gearbox. its just the shape of the bell housing thats different, the internals are identical. The 1.8 axlehas a slightly different ratio to the 2 litre, when fitted to a 2 litre it makes it a bit quicker on acceleration but loses a bit on top end, I have fitted one to my SRI powered Manta. Anyone interested in Mantas, check out the Owners Club website.... www.mantaclub.org
