Hi guys. I'm having some fairly serious brake judder on my 306 when I push the pedal down over half way. It seems to happen when i'm slowing from about 50mph+ and it gets very bad as the car slows I.e. the whole car starts to shake, but then i'll get down to about 20 and it goes away. If i'm braking from say 30mph I get some vibration in the pedal but none in the car.
The brakes other wise seem fairly good, the pedal is nice and firm and the stopping distance is good. Is it fair to say that it's a warped drum as it feels like it's coming from the rear. Thanks. Mark

would say its more likley the front disc's as brake power is more bia'sd towards the front on modern cars, also pretty hard to warp a drum unless you smacking it with a hammer.
would try new bads and disc's from euro carparts although you may run into the usual pug problem of which make of brake pads you have fitted.

Have you tried switching it off and on? ;D
Last time I had such a thing was fubared break pads, otherwise id presume warped drum.

I've allready checked the fronts and they're fine. Well not fine but they're not the cause of the judder so it's got to be the rear.
I'm going to put the car on the ramp at Uni tomorrow and have a good look at everything on the rear end to see if i can get to the bottom of it.

Gently pull on the handbrake. This will tell you if its the rear at fault.
Have you recently changed the wheels?
I fitted a set of wheels to a 5 bolt beetle a few years ago and one turned out to have a buckle. The wheel when bolted up twisted the drum and caused the brakes to judder. Put the old wheels back on and all was fine.
Worth a thought.
Dave.

Definitely sounds like a warped disc to me. Never heard of a warped drum, I suppose it could happen but I can't see how or why. Even beating the living daylights out of them to get them off does them no damage.

drums do warp... I've seen it (and felt the effects) its usually down to it being ancient and worn out.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

I checked it today, 1 warped drum and a pair of knackered shoes. Looks like the brakes been seized on at somepoint or someone left the handbrake on.
