Nice car!
Defo give it an orange nose, and maybe paint the rear spoiler body colour to de-chav it?
After that a nice turbo and she'll be perfect! ;D

here is my current "to do" list. not urgent but a programme of preventantive maintenance and TLC:-
- clean all soil out of the water trap areas in wheel arches - acquire more brm alloys - repaint nose cone orange (another one one way) - acquire another wing badge - sort out odd tyres (at least on front axle) - new rear discs, pads and possibly rear calipers - stop exessive movment of rear exhaust box - suspension rebush - panel filter - repair the few rust blebs - investigate/clean TB and idle control valve - gear linkage rebush - clean red leather and repair drivers bolster scuffing - sort out clock - fit new blaupunkt stereo - apply some discreet (genuine) rover sport stickers to 3/4 windows - oil and filter - gearbox oil - coolant flush (might wait until MoT in march) - adjust front wiper arms as catching on bonnet - new rear wiper blade - rear water squirter not working - heat rear screen not working - new parcel shelf brackets (ordered) - key fob refurb kit - new engine mounts - new oxygen sensor - new coolant sensor

That looks like a sensible list indeed. The coolant flush would be higher up the list for me though given the appetite these have for headgaskets.
Looks like a really fun daily, I'm jealous!

I'm not overly concerned about the coolant at the moment but i understand what you're saying. Its clean and topped up currently.
The engine had a £750 bill for HGF work at 57k miles and has had 2 services at 65 and 75 k miles.

Another BRM owner on the site - bout time! The rear washer and HRW problems come as standard Matt. The top inside edge of the tailgate severs the pipe/ wire eventually but easy enough to fix. Glad you like it - ours has been in the family for over a year now and has been 100% reliable. Nick

Silver's not original mate. The supplying dealers painted over some of the orange ones because the orange was freaking out potential buyers! If you scrape any silver nose you'll find orange underneath. HGF - meh! Worse case scenario is £300 at a specialist. Considering you can pick these up for about £700 now, and most of them will have had it done with the tougher replacement kit already, it's not much of a risk in the grand scheme of things.

As said in previous posts, the orange nose is the whole point! Glad to see you're putting it back Matt, it's the only way they should be !

Quick update since i've not posted for a while. 1) just before xmas I noticed the engine was loosing coolant, about a pint every 5 days then it got the coffee mayo on the dipstick. Bumhats!!.... bloody head gasket. and i'd only had the car about 3 weeks. oh well. I new the BRM had had its HG done back in jan 05 (had lasted 5 years which is good going for standard gaskets)and was done properly, but it used the standard gasket kit, not the uprated freelander ones as they hadn't come out back then. after a bit of research, I found out that Nanjing Auto who own the rights to ther K series have developed the k series further for their range of new MG cars. In conjunction with XPART, there is now an even newer upgraded MLS gasket (upgraded further from the freelander MLS gasket) coupled with stronger block/head bolts (as advised by ARP) and an even stiffer oil ladder that bolts between the sump and the block. I got my local garage to do the work including head skim and pressure test, cambelt, tensioner, water pump, new rad etc. when they got the head off they found the head gasket had gone due the elastomer bead failing - nothing more serious. the head needed a mild skim. The bill for the work was pretty horrendous (£1050 but the gasket kit alone was £170 plus vat) but hopefully that should keep it going for a good number of years. Just glad i didn't pay anywhere near the asking price for the car. 2) again, just before xmas my neighbour kindly reversed off his drive and clipped the passenger front wing. Feck nows what he was doing to do that.....As i'd parked with the steering on full lock, the alloy took the main force of the impact, so the alloy was scraped, the bumper got pushed slightly up to the wing but luckily the wing hasn't been dented. I drove the car and the steering was fine. its now in the body shop being sorted through the insurance. hopefully it'll be a wing respray and alloy reface and supension check. his car was a 54 plate toyota corolla and got a massive 8" gouge out of the sill and both front and rear drivers doors dented...lol no oily pics unfortunately but i've been collecting a number of bits and bobs so will have some pics in the next post. have moody shot in the works carpark though

I love BRMs, always good to see another one in circulations. HGF is only a problem if it's never been done on a particular car. M k-series engined R8 was done at 72k (now on 90k, original thermostat, alternator (can be a prob on R8/R6 Rovers because of proximity to exhaust), radiator is also a problem spot on K-series cars because of silting up in the bottom, mine was getting hot in traffic until i discovered that most of the cooling fins didn't exist... Thanks heavens for superior new ones...

My rad looked liked that pic but interestingly, it wasn't over heating. it was only because i pop the bonnet once a week, i noticed the coollant level dropping. ordered the new rad on fleabay from NRG - an new shiny alloy style one rather than the original satin black copper finned ones. superior cooling and only £37 inc delivery....bargain. managed to acquire a set 4 spare cosmos alloys. 2 have virtually brand new dunlops on so once i get the car back from the bodyshop, these will go on. when i bought the BRM it came with 4 odd tyres, so not great for handling. also, one of the other tyres developed a side wall bulge. luckily it only had a few mm of legal tread left.

HGF is only a problem if it's never been done on a particular car. yeah, its seem almost pot luck on gasket durability. in my case the factory gasket, fitted at build in summer 99 lasted until Dec04/52k miles. the second gasket (same type) including light skim etc lasted until Dec09/88k. the standard gaskets are definitely not up to the job, regardless of assembly care

i've been collecting some bits and peices to get the BRM up to scratch. i reckon the plugs, leads and the oxygen sensor all need replacing as there is no record in the history of them ever being changed. finding service bits for the brm can be tricky as the catalogues don't list the BRM, so you have check under 200Vi or mgf vvc. the oxygen sensor is NOS MG rover for £38, the leads genuine lucas OEM for a mgf vvc for£24 and the plugs were £8. standard fitment plugs are the long life jobbies at £18 a set. yes, they might well last 60k miles but they'll still degrade after 2 years......i'd rather buy the regular ones and replace every 2 years. changing that lot will be a curse word though. its means getting the front up on ramps and go in from underneath to get the O2 sensor out and the coilpack is on the back of the block under the inlet manifold. Doing the plugs is the easy bit i also managed to poick up a complete interior set for £100, mainly for a better drivers seat as the current one has some bad bolster wear. the replacement one is currently in the house getting pelnty of leather feed. the plan is to swap the over but also to get thre seat fixed lower to the flooplan to imporve my seating position. Anyway, today I thought i'd get the nose cone swapped over to an orange one. managed to pick up a complete BRM front bumper for £55 with genuine orange paint nose and chrome mesh grill. heres the original one. you can see the orange coming through due to gravel rash. got caught by the snow close up of new nose

as above - looks so much better now that it's orange. Love these motors. There's one locally to me here in N Ireland. Can't be anymore than a half dozen in the country.
