Just been in the garage to check on the GT. My dad was supposed to be running it every week or so, but he clearly hasn't . Opened the door to find a smelly mouldy interior :x. Everything was green and white, the carpets, seats, steering wheel, dash..... I got the car out and cleaned the interior till I couldn't stand the cold anymore :b . I will do it propperly tomorrow. The car started fine (after i pinched the golf battery to start it) and it ran perfectly . Now I'm bored of the golf, which i bought to use at uni instead of the mini. I'm really tempted to sell the golf and take the mini back to uni with me. But there has been a car over the road stolen and someone else had thier window smashed and the radio stolen. Pics to help.

MMMMM uni is bad for cars. I had my old imp tampered with on multiple occasions, one with a whell full of concrete that bent the entire front panel, another with windows smashed. Rod had his broken into, runined a set of locks, and creased a door skin too i think. My new imp isnt going anywhere near uni, there are too many little shi*s that don't care and only enjoy ruining other peoples nice things, if they cant have it why should i?

I'd use the Mini. Hopefully going to Uni in september so starting to look at my options on the car side of things, to sell the Orion and get something a little bit cheaper and possibly more retro, but at the same time is easy to work on, reliable and isnt going to get broken into (hopefully) An 80's Mini had crossed my mind.

how did the interior get mouldy? is there damp getting in? id be having serious words with ur dad. did he not see all the work u put into that lovely mini? i like ur golf too, is a bit unusual to see a black one, definatley get something else, or find a secure garage / lock up near uni, if your lucky u may find somewhere big enough to share with other trusted students? just an idea, second favourite, being get a disposable car, ie that theres plenty of in breakers, something boring and invisible... renault... festa.... but NEVER even consider a corsa.... or ill have to come point at you and call you barry...

OOooh. Nice Mini Isn't silica gel supposed to be quite handy for absorbing moisture....might be worth getting hold of some to try and stop the mouldy interior syndrome..... Definately wouldn't risk anything as nice as that at Uni. I had a clubman at uni.....it got broken into a couple of times, and only didn't get stolen because the battery terminals were so crusty it wouldn't start half the time. Mind you, I only paid £40 for it....and it had £50 worth or tax on the 'screen......

use a caravan condensation remover in the mini whilst you're not using it, should stop most of the mould.
don't use the mini for university, it'll get abused! you'll be endlessly giving lifts to people, usually drunk, who will vomit in it and break bits off. student houses are always in scummy areas so it'll get scratched and dented. and then when you figure beer is more important than petrol, it'll sit idle for weeks on end.
what is the golf anyway, anything good or just a povo-spec with alloys on?

Ouch chaps, I never had any trouble with my Anglia or Prefect at university and they were just parked up with all the other cars. Never had stereo on view though. I'd take the mini!

Yep it's just damp in the garage. I have now gone for the cheap option and put some bowls of salt/rice in the car to soak up the moisture. I cleaned it all out today and the battery box had 10mm of water in it too . The golf is just a 1.6 ryder with bbs alloys. I haven't had it long but I find it a bit boreing to drive. It just seems a real shame to leave the GT locked up in the garage, as I built it to be used not to look at. When I saw it wasn't really doing it any good just stood i think it may aswell be at uni. If i don't use it now then it will be a few years before it gets used properly again, except in the summer. I don't use the golf that much tbh. Just the odd trip to the supermarket and to get home once every few months. Cos like you say there are more important things to spend money on ;D. Still can't decide what to do .
