I suppose a bunch of people will have seen that '79 Cadillac Coupe DeVille on eBay. With a sorted carb and an LPG kit that thing might have some promice. Except its too expensive as it stands and also its full of hydraulics.
I'm imagining the job of removing all that stuff is just a matter of refitting stock springs and shocks.
Is there much of a market for the old hydraulic junk off the car to offset the purchase price or is this whole train of thought a waste of time?

second hand stuff does sell the guy who bought my Merc bought it for the hydros, gotta be cheaper to buy one without it on though, there may have been mods under there or in the boot to carry batteries and pumps etc, as well as holes in the floor for the lines, of course if its otherwise been hard to find the car you want you may have no choice.

I have no experience of lowriders at all, but I'd imagine a car that's had that kind of life would have been subjected to stress in areas that were never considered by the designers, right? All that lateral bouncing's got to have some twisting effects, surely.
Although I really don't know much about it - perhaps it's common practice in lowrider circles to seam-weld the shell and what-have-you?

big, separate chassis cars are popular for a reason LOL.
yeah, theres a much nicer unmolested one for £100 more. Has a smaller motor in it though, but meh. I guess thats the better bet (especially with my recent levels of being arsed to do anything with cars) although not being able to sell junk off it to recoup the purchase price puts it out of budget.

A used, but operational single or twin pump system is properly worth about £5-700.

They could of modified the subframe / chassis to accomodate the hydro's thus making it impossible to refit the original suspension??

A used, but operational single or twin pump system is properly worth about £5-700. Nah, it's old fenner stuff that doesn't appear to work properly. Batteries are good, so I'd say nearer £400 max. At a minimum it will almost certainly have holes in the boot for the rams, holes through to mount the battery/pump racks to the chassis and probably holes through the front inner arches. The boot *will* be full of hydraulic oil. All suspension bushes would have had a hard time, and will almost certainly be worn to or beyond MOT standards if it's been on juice for a while. If chassis has not been strengthened, it will probably not be true - if it has been strengthened, it will add loads to the weight. Basically hydraulics kill cars. I've built 15+ of the bloody things over the years, and have only managed not to damage a couple of them. If you want a lowrider, go for it, it's a cool looking car. If you plan to return it to a classic, do not buy a lowrider!
