Could you give me some advice on what i would need for a decent set up.I don't want over the top just good sound and decent power not loads were it blast your ears out.This is for my ford f350 fire truck. I have a jcv stereo cd player a decent one.I was going to fit some jvc speakers in the rear roof, and some in the front.What watts would be good.Would i need a amp.Will i need a sub woofer.How about tweeters.I don't know anythink about car hifi.Any advice welcome Thanks

Most budget speakers are either dual cone or coaxial. This means the tweeter is built in so you don't need a separate one. Just fit the speakers either (a) where they sound best or (b) where you can actually find somewhere to fit them.
You can get a reasonable sound quality from the built in amp on most decent modern head units. I like JVC stuff, I have ahad a couple of theirs and they were great. No additional amp needed. Of course it all depends what you want to achieve. If you go on "certain" audio websites you'll be told you need like a grands worth of kit... Different strokes for different folks.
If you want to run a sub you need an amp to drive it.
I personally like an amp even if I don't have a sub - gives you more power, more options for configuration.
How much power you need is again, all down to personal preference. I know of cars with nice sounding systems which ran off a 4x25W amp (oldskool Rockford Fosgate) I'd go with at least 4x60 if not twice that. But then I would, you don't have too...
You can always add an amp later if you need one.
Most decent quality coaxial speakers will run happily off a decent but modestly powered amp.
I've not used the JVC speakers ever so I can't comment on them. IMO getting nice speakers is about the most important part of buying the kit.
Fitting it all properly is the most important bit.

Thanks now i understand better,I was only going to use jvc to keep it all the same make.But i don't really mind just want decent sound so i can play all the 80s

 I have found Pioneer make some nice sounding and budget freindly speakers. A trip to Halfords means you can have a listen to them all on the stand, check if there are any deals on and if not buy online from somewhere like www.caraudiodirect.com and save a few quid. |

vibe sek-50 or sek-60, halfords have started knocking em out cheap now and sound great. personally wouldnt waste time with coaxials, go for compoments. the vibes mentioned are £45 a pair. whack em on a s/h four channel, like a fusion or vibe which can be found on ebay, and if you want more bang after that, a 10 or 12 inch in a sealed box, with a little mono block or bridged two channel amp.
unfortunetly, the first thing to do imo, would be to throw the jvc in a skip and buy at least a sony hu.

LOL I think your advice sucks. Sony headunits conistantly sound worse than JVC ones in the opinion of most audio types. Personally I reckon you do well to hear a difference but the Sony have a terrible reputation for square wave clipping and other distortion issues. Personally I have owned both and been happy enough with them. Theres certainly no difference worth "pitching it in a skip" for  I would imagine that finding the space to integrate comonent sets into the cab of a 1950s yank truck would be a task. True, the crossovers in many component sets are better quality than the capacitor based filters on most coaxials but when you are compairing the lower end of the market its the same stuff just in different boxes... Setting up component sets to give decent stereo image or sound stage takes more effort. |

Setting up component sets to give decent stereo image or sound stage takes more effort. sony h/u aint great, but they are better than jvc, and good enough for most people. i.e i run a becker in my camper, but i put a sony in my g/f's car. the main reason i would recommend, is just for the better adjustments, and the dedicated sub out which makes life so much easier on a basic/cheap install. jvc are terrible, end of. they are badly built and like i said i m o the sound sucks. worse than sony. not wishing to argue, but why would it be any harder to fit compoments into the truck than coaxials? you will have to locate the crossover, and the tweeter, but i generally think you just got a better chance of better sound, that even a novice would notice. I'm not saying its a fantastic set up, its just one which would cost absolutly £400 all in and would rock, enough. i do agree but time spent well would be getting them in the right locations, and making sure they are fitted properly. a bit of sound dedening works wonders if you get any buzzing panels too. not just argueing for the sake of argueing dude, i spent a fair amount of time trying to be as tight as possible before i did things properly, and i found that combo to be most effective. ive just taken a risk and bought a (horror) fusion head unit for my work van, going to sling it in on my ppi five channel and infinity compoments, as going by the reviews on talk audio and the like, I'm prepared to be proved wrong on my opnions of them! thanks, jay |

If this is for a camper, a head unit with a remote control might be an idea, if it hasn't got it. Most important thing is where you put your speakers, how well they are fitted. Car speakers rely on what they're mounted in and what airspace is behind them for their sound, the car door (or whatever) is the speaker cabinet. Ever heard a speaker that isnt mounted in a cabinet? Awful.

I have a jvc KD-AVX2 it has a remote. any idea what wires will be needed if i wire up a dvd screen in the back, a Subwoofer i want to hine the wires in the roof before i panel it over.

slave screen of orignal headunit? from the spec i could find, looks like it would be a pair of phono's. didnt realise it was a resonable jvc, definetly got to be worth a crac. not too up on av side of things, you may need to run a remote to the screen too? i was going to run a laptop on a usb docking station in my camper.

I wonder if i could use my 8inc reverse camera screen to watch dvds.I would like to still wire up a 15inc screen in the back.The reverse set up is a waeco i think thats how you spell it. twin camera set up.
