For my Lancaster quote, I actually used one of the comparison sites and got it then and there. The second cheapest quote was well over £1500, so you really do need to hunt around for it.
Good luck.

dude you really need to haggle with these guys. flux will haggle with you, ive knocked off few hundred a year with flux on my bike and car quotes and i always end up going with them. what i do is get a bare bones quote with like churchill, say it comes to £250, ring up flux and say look churchill quoted me online £250, what can you do? (don't tell them about the huge excess or anything, just get a figure from another company to play with) flux will then stick you hold and come back and say we can match you at £250. reply this with - 'thats not really an incentive, its just the same number, i want you to better it'. you go on hold again... they come back with £220, "ok thats excellent, but i really want it below £200...." you go on hold again, they come back and say theyll put you on to their team leader, you speak to team leader. big sales number team leader comes on and says how he wants your custom but cant go that low. tell him - "make it £199.99, its a psychological barrier for me to break through" then they go on hold for a little while and come back and agree to it. you just have to hold out and push them hard. i do it all the time with renewals its good fun and a nice feeling when you have halved the renewal quote. they may not go that far as to half it every time in all honesty, they don't always go that far, only about 50% of the time but youll defo get money off if you try it. also tell them you want free no claims bonus protection, don't ask them just tell them. and don't bottle it otherwise youll loose it, just don't back down on it and tell them what you want. youre the one parting with a few hundred £££ end of the day for their services. also a good site for you if youre ringing up to save on the phone bill - www.saynoto0870.comit gives you the landline and free phone alternatives to the premium rate lines. good luck!

I don't know why you're struggling with the Peter Best website, worked fine for me when I insured my Audi. They've just given me a quote of £319 on the website for you at 22, based on a Volkswagen under 2000cc stored at an Eastleigh postcode I found on Google. Still not amazing, but better than the other insurers you've tried.

cheers dude, I'm gonna give that a go. but don't think I'm giving adrian flux the benifit of the doubt anymore... i tried the same thing this year on the daily
it came back for renewal at more than i was paying (By a lot) so i tried some other people and zurich quoted the 220 fully comp... i asked adrian if they could better or match that and they said they could come down to 390 iirc, and said they cant come near zurichs price.. so i left..... i wanted them to at least match it, even if it was say 20quid more i would have stayed with adrian to save the hassle but they obviously didnt want my custom.. ive been with them 3 years. never missed a payment and had loads (LOADS!!!) of cars with them , and never claimed in that time.... curse word em... lol

(And i want to be legal ) I'm kinda hoping they come thru actually....

Ahh right. The Zurich quote you mentioned sounds very cheap, why aren't you going with them? This whole 'over 25' thing is a real bugbear of mine, it makes no sense that a newly qualified or inexperienced driver of 25 is considered less of a risk than a driver with up to 7 years of experience (on the basis of a 24 year old who passed their test at 17). At least I'll be 25 in a year and a bit. Huzzah!

zurich was for my mk2.... which when you look at it in insurance group terms....
mk1= group 2 mk2= group 4
yet even on a standard go compare quote the mk2 is cheaper? even saying both are standard? realy makes no sence....... although i guess i have to factor in the fact that most insurance companies wont touch a 30year old car....so some I.E ZURICH don't come up as a result...... i have the posibility of waiting 3 years untill i can insure it......
id be suppised if it survives 3 months sat in the garage... its a pet peeve of mine that any car i own has to have some kinda purpose..and if its just sat there its wasted money lol

I get so annoyed with this. 0870 IS NOT A PREMIUM RATE NUMBER.Its a BT standard rate number. The only people who SHOULD always try call in on the 01xxx geographic number are people on mobiles or prepackaged inclusive call deals on landlines which exclude NGN numbers (often including 0800 freephone!) from the free minutes. I had some chap call in from cross county to our offices once very smuggly told me he'd got our "real" number rather than our "premium" 0845. He got a little peeved when I told him he was paying MORE to call STD than our LOCAL rate on the 0845... fool. Please folks, no reputable insurance company uses a premium rate number for inbound sales calls. Understand what you are talking about before passing on bad info.

The on topic!
I have been consistently very happy with footman James Insurance. I have found that they have been the best price for me for about 12 years. Also they are very good with the paperwork. It seems every time I phone them up I get a customer satisfaction questionnaire sent to me in the mail afterwards. May tend to speak the same lady each time I call and I think she may even be starting to recognise me! Thankfully I have never had to put in a claim with them so I cannot say how they perform on that. However all of the dealings I have had with them have been excellent so I am confident on that score.
Where you often seem to have trouble with footman James is where you have a more modern car, or one which has a lot of modifications.
I was concerned when I heard he had been sold to another and the that the quality of their service may slip, but this does not appear to have happened.
I was insured with Adrian flux for a while. That was a debacle. In the whole time I was insured with them I never had one certificate from them. I have a fairly regular stream of 14 day cover notes sent through the post. This did not inspire me with great confidence however. On the other hand they were very cheap, and they seemed unfazed by any modification I asked about all carried out. I have heard some significant horror stories about people who have had to claim on policies issued by Adrian flux however. As far as I understand it the problem is not so much with Adrian flux but with the underwriter of some of the policies that they sell. This underwriter will also sell policies through other brokers, so beware.

I asked adrian if they could better or match that and they said they could come down to 390 iirc, and said they cant come near zurichs price.. so I left..... I wanted them to at least match it, even if it was say 20quid more I would have stayed with adrian to save the hassle but they obviously didnt want my custom Errm, they're just a broker, not an insurer you know. They can only work with what quotes they get out of the system at the end. If £390's the one at the top of the list then that's generally the best they can do, excepting a word with a kindly underwriter. It's not about 'not wanting your custom'. My advice about giving them a target was because they don't always give you the cheapest price on that list. But, if you give them a low target, they'll know to give you the lowest price off the bat. Your whole list of people you're calling are BROKERS. They're going to give you quotes that come out of their system from particular INSURERS. The point of calling loads of them is that they all have different deals, schemes etc. with different insurers. If you can imagine, basically the person on the other end is using something not dissimilar to confused.com etc. and then choosing which figure to read out to you.

I'm with Adrian Flux and have had a good experiences so far.
At the time of taking out my policy i had 6 points (2 x 3 points each for speeding), plus i had just come off a 56 day ban, again for speeding (will i ever learn?!!). My car was a reasonably well modified Carlton GSi 3000 with uprated suspension & brakes, stripped interior, conversion from auto to manual. I didn't have any no claims to use on this policy as i'd already used them on my daily driver.
I rang Adrian Flux and they insured my car for approx £275. I tried Footman James who wouldn't even quote because of my licence history. I also tried Diamond (not the girls only one!!) and they quoted but they couldn't match the Adrian Flux quote. So i went with Adrian Flux. I got all my documents via email within an hour of taking the policy out. I also got the same documents via the post too. I sent back the modified vehicle delcaration and mileage declaration and received a email from them confirming that they had received them.
So my expeirences with Adrian Flux are all good so far.

right after using about 15quids worth of credit today calling various people and listening to voicemails others have left... ive got a reasonably cheap quote from Bishop Calway its less than my mk2, *all mods declared *fully comp *limited to 3000miles a year the catch is that for the policy to remain 'legit' i have to be constantly insured on another car (not with them nessicarilly) but a car that i can use daily..... not a problem at the mo as i am using the mk2 everyday and its fully insured, but a year down the line its more than likely ill be sharing cars with the misses..... guess ill cross that bridge when i come to it.... Plan is now to get it MOT ready so that early JAN it can be insured , tested and taxed for a year, giving me a year to decide weather i like it, and weather or not i want to keep throwing money at it ;D I'm still not giving up with getting quotes as it cant hurt to keep trying.. may get something even cheaper.... but going by how cheap this one came out, i cant see that happening...... cheers guys for the help... ;D
