I had nothing but loyal and excellent service from Flux over about 3 years and 10 cars - doesn't really matter where you go at the end of the day, you can still get royally screwed over.
This is no reflection on this thread, more a general comment - on the internet it is typical that you'll only hear the 'bad' stuff about a company - and they'll seem horrendous - but what you don't get is messages from thousands upon thousands of people who have nothing but good service from the very same company.

This is why I make a point of praising my insurance co. I was previously also with Footman james, who I also found to be excellent

Peter Best were nice to me when I had my Audi Coupe. I'm only a little older than you and it was £215 per year.

I'll recommend brentacre again. I'm paying what you pay on the polo, on my ABF Mk2 16v, with loads of mods declared, 5k per year, me (aged 22) as the main driver and a 23 year old named driver, with 3 years ncb and 3 points. No where else even came close, and they actually knew what they were talking about on the phone!

That's nearly as much as I'm paying now for my first year. 21, no NCB, first year on the road, Dolomite 1850. £750 fully comp. Lancaster.

I say try lancaster insurance too.
I'm 23, no ncb, 5000 miles, no security, 2 named drivers (parents) alloy wheels and wider tyres, plus I even added twin carbs and lowered suspension and it made no difference.
Theres a few other extras too like a courtesy car, winderscreen cover, £1500 key cover that none of the other insurance companies offered me but they did.
Price was £430 on my colt, brilliant price and what makes it even better is that it is the first time i have ever been on my own insurance

I'm gonna write a list of ones to try now.... cheers for all the help guys , got realy p*ssed off last night when the penny dropped that i could have just spent the last 12mnths playing with that car and running up and down the country buying bits for nothing.... I will add this, i havnt had any (ANY!!!) Good expieriences with flux... they have done pretty much everything to me as they have done to DUGONG ...... But as they had insured my bug VERY cheaply before i thought id give em a go.... also the fact the supposed rule at flux (told by one of the sales team) is that insurance wont increase if the mods don't affect BHP... so in that regard... group 2 ins for a mk1 polo .. so for my age , say around 200quid ish... .... BOLL*CKS! ill never ever reccomend them to anyone again....

i'd say its your age. under 23 an and you will get screwed over by insurance. my wife is with flux on her polo pays just over £200 fully declared on all the mods and unlimited mileage.

i forgot to say last term on my santana with adrian flux i was paying 490 ish fully comp. lowered with revos all declared , unlimited miles and driving to work this year my insurance went up above that for a standard mk2 polo so i went with zurich who are doing the same for 220 fully comp

BOLL*CKS! ill never ever reccomend them to anyone again.... Hardly a wasted 12 months. The insurance is still affordable, if a little steep for what it is. And that's only one company. last time I tried, Footman James couldn't quote me on the MX5, Adrian Flux were too high, Performance direct wanted silly money, Admiral on a 'normal' policy were fine until you factored in the interest on monthly payments.. I looked around until I found a company I was happy with. No point getting all negative and considering breaking it because of one company. All the companies manage to be cheaper than others for different types of cars and people because they choose to specialise in a certain type of 'risk'. Sheilas wheels likes ladies, Saga likes old people etc. Find the right company and you'll be laughing. I'll say it again though, Brentacre are great 'I've changed the front end of my car for one from a Volvo 244' 'So that's wings, bonnet, lights, grille..sounds good. Anything else?' ;D

I'm not being negative through a quote from one company tho... I'm factoring in more than a few quotes on the mk1... adrians being the cheapest... and my recent run in with adrian flux and the mk2 in which the sales lady rightly said everyone is quoting more this year...
Its been a bloomin sh*t week allready, its not gonna be gettin better for a couple of weeks (family things) and my deadline for the car was crimbo which isnt happening now as i simply refuse to go higher than 500 for insurance.... ... it doenst make sence that a car hardly being used should cost more than a car that sees rushhour traffic and motorways everyday....
sorry if I'm being realy negative... i just wish id left it stock now but thats not an option as i don't have the right parts to put it back

Peter James is on record as wanting to be as successful in his new business as he was in his old one. After all, selling to AON (Man U's new sponsors) for a large chunk of moolah is pretty successful! Only way I know of winning business is beating other's quotes and I'd suggest they'll be dead keen to beat a Footman James quote especially. You know about getting your best quote and then knocking 10% off it when you speak to the next broker don't you? You'll soon have it knocked down that way.

Saying you're a member on there might get you a bit off.
