Alright My girlfriend likes 1940s stuff so I got her this for christmas A 1940s Romax french watch - a bit tatty ( or nicely aged!) but it's cute. It was only £8 too (although that means I'll have to get her something else as well!) While I was on there I decided that I absolutely hate my chunky 'super-masculine-power-sales figures-energy drink-sports-gillette mach 3-watch' with three extra dials and day and date and a bloody tachymeter (who on earth needs a tachymeter on a watch?!) and picked this up for myself The seller thinks it's 1970s. It was a tad over £40 (a lot less than I paid for my horrible watch) and far more classy than the Range Rover Sport currently weighing down my left arm. While I was on there I spotted one of these Which is one of the nicest watches I've ever seen and it was only £300 which seems a bargain - I couldn't justify spending that much on a watch when I'm at university though! Anyone else got any Retro (w)Ristwatches?

I bought one of these for my birthday about 3-4 years back: Wanted one for yonks, it's from 1982 but they've been in production since then for some time. Was new old stock, but I think they might still produce them in limited runs. Makes me feel like a stylish executive instead of the scum that I am.

I could never justify spending serious money on a watch. Sometimes there are things that you can notice the difference, but a watch is there for telling the time. a date function is a bonus! That said I recently splashed out on a 5th watch, only because it was in great condition and the chrome plating wasn't peeled at all. A wallet-busting 50p was exchanged for it, but the batteries are too dear for the minute

I paid what I'd consider a decent amount for my watch but I'd always wanted it, plus I like how square and hefty it is, I could take it off and bray someone with it.

^ and a car is there for getting from A to B I could get into my whole philosophy about design in general, but here isn't the place for it. Suffice to say that I like 'things'. Well-made stuff, where form follows function, but rather than being agricultural the function is so elegant that the form is completely sublime and unpretentious. It's like you can sense worth in something through the quality of the materials and workmanship and the lack of useless adornments. Merc W108s, Bob Jackson handbuilt bicycles, Riva boats, that Omega watch - they've all got the same feel about them. I guess I did get a bit philosophical...

I LOVE watches.. but always spend a lot of time looking at them and not much owning them, think its about time I changed that! my retro count is fairly small to be honest.. got one of these which is almost retro: one of these which is sure to be a future classic and i'm trying to find one of these.. As for my retro ones I STILL have one of these: ;D

I have this as a 'special' watch my dad has an identical one as long as I can remember and i'd always admired it as I though it was the ultimate expression of understated elegance, and good design, I was bowled over when he got me one for my 25th I used to wear it all the time but since I found out that it's worth more than most of my cars I've been a bit more careful with it, blows me a away that it goes into Garrards for a service every few years and come back with a letter about its condition. My daily is this old Seiko kinetic, I loved the concept of the kinetic series of watches and I like the chunky outdoorsy but not OTT styling also they seem to be virtually indestructible...

some cool watches. I had a Romax when younger. Dad probably got it at Dens road market in Dundee. Used to be a good place to go for old stuff. Now its one big stall. Not lots of small ones. I had a Bob Jackson bike years ago. was a 1968, I think. I sent off for transfers when I got it resprayed silver. I put on Suntour 12 speed gears, with stronglight cranks and Fiame sprint rims and tubs. It flew. Did the 50 odd miles to Aberdeen at 20mph average speed. Ive not worn a wristwatch much this year. Sometimes wore my pulse monitor when out on my bike. But was just to see the time. As I'm not fit anymore. The batteries flat so its back in the drawer now. I found I had £17 odds of Argos vouchers still in my wallet. I had got a video recorder a few years ago from Argos and the clock went strange a few weeks after I got it. So got vouchers instead of my money back. Anyway, on wednesday I went to Argos to get some tat. I was looking through the catalogue. Couldnt think what to get. Then remembered I don't have a working watch, and my phone batteries getting old now so I don't think it'll work for much longer. Was carrying phone to use as a clock. don't get many people calling me. I got to the watch section of the book. Looking through it. There was a nice stainless steel Casio. Looked like a 1980s watch. But it was 40p more than my vouchers. I am a tight Scotsman after all. A ned stumbled over, think he was out of head on drugs, as his eyes were half closed. he asked what I was after. I said a watch. I put my hand in my pocket and held my wallet, so he couldnt pickpocket. First time Ive looked through a glossy publication, one handed, in public. Give him his due he did look up watches in the book. don't think I would purchase the pink watch he suggested. I suppose Argos is the neds natural habitat. I got this watch. Not retro or anything. www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2837549/Trail/searchtext%3EIDENTITY+WATCH.htm

I love my retro watches and i'm trying to collect a range called the Spaceman watches by a bloke called Andre le Marquand, he designed quite a few and they are all super wacky. So far i have: Unfortunately with a broken winder. And my other one is so rare i can't even find a picture of it on the web! They made about 20 different varieties in various forms and all very cool!

Some nice stuff! I wear a 1955 Omega Seamaster. A nice watch is one of the only big indulgancies i have, apart from old cars. I look at my watch everyday and not always to tell the time,it's a piece of art.

I rather like the green faced Rolex. The Commadore LEd watch is excellent. I've had a few retros, mostly Seiko Autos. Blue faced single register automatic chrono and on the left is a Seiko 5 bitsa I made up from one watch with a nice case and another with a nice face, it sports a hirsh rally strap. I wish I hadn't sold that one. Another Seiko 5, I've still got this one, I love the shape of the case and the glass. There have been quite a few other Seiko 5 and chrono auotomatics but I don't have pics in my photobucket, or on this computer to upload. These two moderns are my current dailies, Nixon Rotolog jump hours, brushed and leather for casual, polished and bracelet for smart. Both bought through US bay, there's no way I could afford the price on the UK high street!

I like old watches The blue faced one came from my father in law a couple of years ago. It didn't work properly but I made it so and its my daily when I bother to put it on. The one with the stripey strap came from my grandfather and is an early/mid Fifties Omega. I tend to wear it occasionally for summer dos and what not. The one in the background in bits in the pot is not mine about 300 years old and currently broken... I've also got this which was also my Grandfathers and gets worn on certain occasions when I get smart.
