penski in da house: They're incredibly ugly though...
RX-7 = beautiful
RX-8 = repulsive.
I have to second that, where did it go wrong for Mazda, the RX-7 both early and later cars were sooooo cool, the perfect combo of a 2-seater and a Hot Hatch, with Rotary power it was an amazing start for some serious tuning, HKS built some monsters in the early 90's and they rocked. Then the RX-8, god awefull car how could they ruin the concept so totally??? Don't say "untill you have driven one you don't know", I have driven both the RX-7's and 8 and they are 1.000miles apart, RX-7 sportscar with a huge smiley, RX-8 luxobarge with no personality....
Well to each his own....

gonna have to agree to disagree to a sort...i've never been in an RX7 but i can't have it said that the RX8 is ugly...it's gorgeous. surely a wankel engine is all the personality you need? ;d

Ahh As far as i was aware Mazda did not develop the RX-8 to take over from the x -7. From what I read they are supposed to be planning on making a new RX-7. This maybe total cakka now but I remember reading it somewhere when the RX-8 was introduced.

the only thing i can see wrong with the standard rx8 is that it lacks power, its a great little chassis with absolutely perfect weight distribution, it just needs another 30 bhp or more as standard to make it a bit more interesting.
or do what JIC did with their d1 car and fit the turbo engine from the fd32 awesome.
I think also people think the rx8 has taken over from the rx7, it hasnt. its a different car altogether, the next rx7 will carry on the rx7 tradition/philosophy.

i really like the new MX-5...not only because of how it looks, but also because how simple it is. did you see it on TG yesterday? Hammond loved it.

penski in da house: Look at the new MX-5...It looks like a dutton mariner!
You and me man we have the same taste.....
I never got that MX-5 Miata thing. Back when Mazda introduced the Miata in California it was only available in one colour (blue or red, I'm not sure) and it was a limited prodction car, customers lined up at the Mazda dealerships and payed $1000's over sticker to get their hands on this rare gem, year 2 another colour was added to a limited production line and prizes went bonkers!! Next year it was available in a bunch of colours and in huge volumes and the poor suckers that bougth their "limited editions" was stuck with a car that dropped in value like the stock market on "black friday" 92....
Don't get that car, it's not even cute.....

I agree, MX-5 is a bland little potato with wheels.
RX-8 is just plain ugly, for people who have a family but still want a "Sports Coupe" .. not my cup 'o' tea.
Having said that, I'm not a huge fan of the RX-7 either with the eariler ones being particularly mediocre.
A TVR on the other hand.. that's for me ;D
