True Skyline GT-R's aren't that common here to be honest, nearly all Skylines I see are R33 GTS-T's wearing GT-R badges as below: The non GT-R R33 Skylines really bother me. The interiors are absolutely dreadful too, like a Carina taxi or something. They're just kind of redundant, the Silvia/200SX covers the fast RWD budget sports bit and the GT-R is up there as a touring supercar. Why does the GTS-T exist?! This really bothers me! It's a shame because the GTS-T has potential in its own right but it doesn't stop everyone putting GT-R style grilles on them.

This is true, there is/will always be a lot of attempts to look like a GT-R, but I would imagine there is also a wide variety of non-M BMW's getting around with M badging. (don't mean to seem as though I'm badgering BMW's but it's the first comparison that came to mind) It's the same deal.
33's are a pretty dreadful car regardless actually, big whale bloody things certainly more of a family car then a sports car.
Also, that 33 in your picture doesn't appear to be a GTS-t, at most it's a GTS.
The GTS-t exists because it's a straight 6 turbo, the Silvia's are only 4's a lot of people prefer the 6 (me for one ;D ) If you think the GTS-t is strange, you should contemplate the existence of the R32 GXi, it's a CA18 powered Skyline sedan.

I quite like the R33 GT-R but yeah the R33 in general is the "blobby" one of the family. Would prefer a 32. And oops, I meant GTS sorry!! The GTSt is quite a comfortable hp gap away from the Silvia lot and RWD unlike the GT-R so it has a kind of niche (interiors dreadful though ). I am meaning the GTS with the 150hp or so (if I recall). You're right to pick out the BMW's to be honest, M badge always adds a touch of class to a hubcapped 316 doesn't it.

My point was that there are a bazillion other forums where skylines & supra's are hero-worshipped. To the point they become tedious (despite vast hp read-outs).

Ky took the words from my mouth with his initial post..... none of the above 3 options were ever sold here from new (actually I think the Calibra might have been for an extremely short period) and as such we tend to look at the vast array of Japanese coupes instead as options when considering "modern classics."
For me personally, I'd go with an S13 or S14 Silvia/200SX as a modern coupe classic....

As a big fan of Japanese cars, I see what you mean and I agree wholeheartedly. Big power Skylines/Supras are on magazine covers all the time, it's boring now! I like the obscurities, or doing unusual things to usual cars! A little story - I've been pondering over an FC RX-7 for some time and have been less and less enthusiastic about picking one up over the period of being here. Reason being, whatever I choose to do to the car, it's probably been done a thousand times worldwide! Now I want to do something else. Lots of ideas come into my mind - MK1 RX7 with a triple rotor engine! Charmant with a supercharged 4A-GE! Old Japanese taxi (complete with all the stickers) with a dirty old 3.0 Supra Turbo engine slammed in. That's what I love about this place! We're all about picking daft cars to do up.

a firen dof mine recently got a r32 gtst (i think) its the rb20det powered one, its such a lovely car all round. so cheap to. £3k i think. fast enough to make you go "woaah" and with rwd is plenty fun, and is still comfy and a nice car.
and nickb nice mentioning of the z3m coupe thing, another friend has one of them, with the engine tuned to 407bhp at the fly its crazy fast, very snappy car though. and i couldnt drift it for love nor money, but still cool.

None of the above. Kyteler's got some good hi-po choices there (S13 2dr with non pop-up lights a favourite with me), but at the moment I'm rather liking Mazda 626 coupes and MX6, and Honda Legend coupe (early model especially).
All could be bought very cheaply at the moment, and are more likely to have come from a caring owner than the drift favourites and more obvious choices.

Usually when a car is worshipped, be it warranted or not, it is exactly that status that leads it into being a classic. so just because a a large amount of the crowd like them because they're the "in" thing doesn't mean they're any less likely to be classic than any of the other choices.
I'm not the kind of person that stops liking something just because everyone else started to or does, I've been a Skyline and Supra fan for a long long time so whether it's trendy or not is irrelevant to me.

pillock in da house: But which one of these coupes will float your boat?Neither, the Calibra and 220 are quite similar in looks and the Corrado I have no clue to why VW even put that car out, just my personal opinion.... Not beeing one of those "I-have-this-brand-fanatic" but one of the nicest looking cars I have seen in a long while is this PhotoShop of a Skoda Octavia, remove that wing and it's a killer coupe..... Please build this one.....

Calibra? Corrado? Rover 220? How can you have those in the poll and not the almighty: This isn't a serious suggestion by the way, although I bet the V6 ones have potential. Just LOOK at those AWFUL HIDEOUS wheels! EDIT: Looks like I've been beaten to it! ;D

I've been thinking that Skoda needs a new Rapid for ages, and that Octavia coupe's bloody gorgeous, but it'd need to have at least some of the power going to the rear wheels for me, I always imagined that a mid engined small, affordable sports car based loosely on the Fabia would be cool, a good successor to the Rapid as well.

The Calibra had the potential to be a real winner, it's styling looks good today and belies it's age. However, it's a wasted upourtunity as it's just a worked over Cavalier. There is the 4x4 turbo version and one has been for sale in PPC mag for the last 2 months in good condition and original for just £1200. Now no-one can argue that if the car is as good as claimed, that's one hell of a car for the money! Corrado is a well respected car and deffinately one that'll be remembered. The Rover is one of those cars that gets ignored or forgotten about but then comes back and bites you. I'm still undecided yet as to which one to vote for so will wait a bit. Smiler. Oh, Hi Brian.
