I posted a car for sale a couple of days ago, but was locked by "oldbus" for not rerading the guidlines, as for some reason he want my name and address to sell a car. i asked why, and got the answer "don't give him the address i wont be selling my car". he would/could not give me a reasonable answer to why he needs my personal details, as in my veiw only people who are intrested in the car need my details i.e address as my name and phone number was in the add. could any one inlighten me to the purpos of him having such details.
many thanks Ben

The way I understand it is that ultimately the board administrator is responsible for forum content. It will help to cut down on fraudulent car ad's as if you were not a real seller you would not want to leave your personal details. I assume details are only kept for as long as the ad is deemed open, It just provides an extra bit of cover to help stop any other forum member getting ripped off. I'm sure the details are not used for any other purpose than verifying the seller.
I could be wrong, I'm sure a board admin will be along soon enough

Lets hope the crooks don't think of giving a false address!

Think psycho hit it on the head, people trying to sell for the first time with a low post count are required to let the moderator have contact details to prevent dodgy adds and unknown people running off with forum members hard earned cash. In my eyes a fairly sensible move.. many forums don't let you post in the forsale section till you have built up a 'rep' on the other boards and been vouched for. Obviously false addresses could get round this but i'm guessing the mods have thought of this and perhaps have something in place to reduce the likelyhood. Either way nothings fool proof but nice to see a board trying to protect its members as best it can.

but is it not also down to the buyer to to meet at an address and cheak the car over and all relivent details are correct. if you cant do that then should you really be driving a car in the first place. ie details on v5are the same as the addressand even if you wana go that far check the driving licence of the seller to name on log book.

Probably best if you sort it out with him directly, isn't it? Rather than slagging off a mod to the whole board, seems a bit unnecessary...

Moderators have a job to do and it is probably pretty tough to keep on top of everything - this may mean that occassionally you will get a shorter, shrifter answer than you would like - and probably what they really mean. In hindsight, best thing to do is just read and adhere to Forum rules. You could make some comparison Putting an Ad up on a Forum with putting an Ad in a newsagents window, you can't just presume you can do what you want. Advice now, just try and sell eleswhere, plenty of other Forums to adevrtise on.....if you follow their rules.

Read the "for sale" section guidelines and comply. Your thread will be unlocked as soon as we receive your details....not before. and if you seriously think we´ve got time to chase up members to check their personal details then you´re in the wrong place.
