Had this since the summer now - bought with a blown 1.8GL motor, got a donor 8v gti engine, and just in the (slow) process of getting it all fitted, wired up and sorted It's running on coilies and 13x5.5J weller steels, and has a vw factory tow bar, and headlamp washers too! 8) Mint grey interior with 60/40 rear bench To do list: Source and fit a pair of gti driveshafts - anyone? Source and fit an alternator Bypass the ISV Fit and wire in the lift pump and fuel pump Connect the exhaust up to the downpipe Buy and fit a throttle cable Fit front bumper and bonnet DRIVE! Probabaly missed loads - but here's a teaser photo ;D Bit of a tight fit!

why are you going to bypass the ISV?
I know its not stricktly needed and expensive new but they are available used cheaply and can quite often be fixed by cleaning.

Mainly because my budget is so small, and i don't have an ISV, my donor engine didn't come with it, so to avoid buying off eBay and not knowing the condition of an ISV, it seems easy to just bypass it, the americans seem to do it with little effect, I may just have issues with idle on cold starts, and if so - i'll buy one

If you have both gearboxes you don't need GTi driveshafts. You can swap the 90mm drive flanges for the 100mm ones, it's not a difficult job, there's a guide on how to do it online

yeah don't you have to lock the drive flange bit and undo the centre bolt and retract them? seem to remember it going something like that on a polo..... pretty sure its in the haynes manuals too
