Just started a new band, in this one I'll be playing my Doublebass , Problem is it won't fit in my car as well as my amp, and I don't fancy two trips to get to gigs, practice etc so I need to find a cool estate, small van or maybe even a hearse. The car will have to be a daily so I'd like something relatively reliable, economical-ish but maybe also a little bit of fun. was thinking of maybe a BMW estate of some sort or a subaru legacy? any reccomendations chaps? Budget would only be about £1000 and cos we all like a good pic

You wont get an economical hearse unless you swop a diesel engine into it, they are heavy and not very aerodynamic generally and usually automatic with the biggest engine the model came with, they are however massive inside and much cooler than a van.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Merc W123 estate. Solid (well, when not rusty) and dependable and a whole heap of cool. Not really that economical though, even in diesel mode...

318is. Yes i have thoughts about them. The best of the 4cyl 3 Series by miles. Is that enough of a thought

SWB transit, no bigger than a car for parking and plenty of room for kit/swag/shagging ;D

Volvo 240 Estates grow on you, plus Sniper had a 6 foot wardrobe in the back of ours no probs.

I've got a Legnum VR4, not exactly very retro, or economical but fast and with all the AYC, ASC, TSC trickery, damn good fun in the corners. Can be picked up quite cheap too. Retro wise, I was gonna say E30, but that's a bit obvious, so how about a 505
