have thrown this together as a bit of a fun/winter/local bike my local trail is llandeglla and I don't often need the big or the granny ring round here so I ditched them. the chain now comes off sometimes when the going gets rough, so its time for a chain guide

starting with a bit of fairly decent alloy plate out of the scrap bin at work, bit of time with a saw and file nets this

i have a bit of bronze bar stock to make the spacers/chain rubs . going to do some drilling and tapping and see how i get on. this is the mk1 so i have purposely made it on the hefty side in case things need chopping and changing around

Nice! I bought a DMR one and they are a rip off, AND my chain rubs like a barstard on it!

i was looking at the mrp one for the 1x9 and that was £40 the one thing that may be an issue is the noise, but that maybe adressed in the mk2 as nylon blocks sometimes thier way into the skip also ;D

i think youll find your biggest problem is like 90% of bikes, your chain is too long. you mech should be at almost full stretch with the chain on the biggest irng combo. cos youve removed the outer ring, its now miles too long. if you shorten the chain the mech can then work properly to tension it better.
i actually really rate dmr chain devices. i run a chaincage and its certainly the best one ive ever run, its simple, it works, it doesnt rub, and is robust.. but then i run bmx cranks and ring so a lot wont fit. you have to be very particular about how they're set up, and make sure youve got the basic of chainline, chain tension etc. correct first, then bin the black plastic bits and replace with washers/spacers, and its quite easy to get it set up perfect so you can use the whole block without it rubbing.

Dez, i have already shortened the chain, which did improve but not solve my problem. one big prob i think is the chainwheel teeth are ramped to aid shifting, exactly what i don't want. are you using a 9speed on the back and bmx ring on the front? any probs with chain width? cheers for the imput fellas mason
