I've posted pictures of my daily hack, my Rover 2600S Auto converted to V8 manual, here's my other car, a totally different kettle of fish. She had an MOT when I bought her but wasn't really a runner. Dafs are wonderfully simple and are belt driven with just two gears, forwards and backwards. Trouble is my one only had one gear and she wouldn't release it without grinding terribly, hence my nickname 33grinder! Here's the 746cc engine prior to changing the clutch and prop shaft - powweeeerrrr!! (all 26bhp of it) She's not really one for traffic light GPs, unless you're up against milk floats or cyclists but that's not really the point. Dafs are quirky and good fun! ;D Here's the rebuilt clutch She's had a tentative drive and appears to be going ok, just a couple of things to tweak and then find where all the brake fluid keeps disappearing to then MOT time.... Not everyone's cup of tea but don't knock it 'til you've tried one! Great fun nonetheless. Hope you enjoy the pictures, Pete.

That's fantastic! Didn't realise these were aircooled (I assume they are anyway, are those horizontally opposed cylinders with cooling fins I spy?) What a great, quirky little car!

Wow, have these got a variator belt CVT like a scooter then? And 8-shoe centrifugal clutch! Amazing, always nice to see something different.

Looks alot more complete than when i last looked at it, yes all daf 33,44 and 46 are aircooled twins. 55 and 66 are water cooled four all with centrifugal clutch drum up to 55 and disc on 66

Blimey, an increasing number of belt-driven wonders on this site! Nice to see another one. I've still got a hankering for a 44 having driven a 33 and been a passenger in a 55 (thanks Stefan!)

Thanks Stef! I agree there are certainly simularities appearance wise with the trabbi. I used to have a trabbi and friends mistook it for the Daf. Trabbis are also great fun but I ran out of space and it had to go. I always did wonder which would be fastest in a straight drag, would have been fun being left hand drive, both drivers could have sat side by side. Hey ho, I guess I will never know. Once peculiarity that Dafs do have though is they will go as fast in reverse as they will forwards! ;D

Awesome! There was a 33 down my mate's road in Sale for years and years. It eventually melted into the floor and was swept away by the scrap man. These must be scarce by now so good on you for saving it and getting it road legal again.
Also, that clutch looks terrifying. 'Forward to forward, back to go back' indeed......

Yep, they're certainly rare now. Parts is also an issue even in the Netherlands. The Dutch had a tv series in the late 70s/early eighties where they raced them in reverse. So many were trashed, tragic! Please don't be tempted to do this! There's a small but dedicated group of us in Essex and we're always on the look out for fellow owners and cars. Even if they're scrappers then they're of use to us to help keep others on the road. They are not worth much in scrap value but to us they are a godsend. If anyone knows of any going spare, do let me know!!

These will always remind me of the one from scrapheap challenge: It won aswell Great motor btw, any plans for it? Thanks. It will remain stock. There's not much you can do to up the power output and it's a mend and make do type of car. There are alloy wheels out there for them but they don't share the same PCDs as other 3 wheelers, say Renault 5, there are Daf alloys though. You can even get miniltes! I want to get her back road legal and then turn to getting the bodywork smartened up. Perhaps then some tastful minilites, funds permitting, I think they would suit her nicely It's thought that the Daf in scrapheap challenge is a 32, very rare so would have been gutting if it lost, great television though!

Hello again, nice 33, my missus one is a 6 volt version in the same white, almost looks identical to hers when we got it!! The one used in scrapheap challenge was indeed a 32, white with rare blue interior, I was winning it on e-bay, got outbid and then it turned up on telly, with a weird dent in it and broken glass...

That's a real shame, I sure you would her justice! Kind of makes you wonder on that show why there's always a couple of bits of machinery that's working and fits the bill as to what's needed?!! Look forward to seeing your missus 33. Do you have any pictures?
