this is a sensible idea and as such I shall probably disregard it...
But seriously, I know how much this kind of work costs. I can't afford to pay someone to do it even on the proceeds of the other cars.
Just utterly dejected about having to pull the trans out of the Olds again, all the cost and effort gone already and still to go and still not sorted is just making my mojo flat I think

However i reckon that a few guys off here who are either out of work or could arrange a week off at the same time, could do it on the proceeds of the other cars. Even from just what we read I think we can see you're beginning to hate the 98, and the Fury could go that way if another big obstacle comes up... The Buick hasn't been heard of for yonks though... how is it?

Its all personal opinion and who you are right now in your life but personally..............i hate every single one of those cars. Just not my idea of retro or cool or flash or any of those things. This has no bearing on anything at all as I personally hate most things that apparantly normal people think are awesome and what normal people should aspire too. We all have periods of no mojo or a desire for something different but only you can decide if you will defect permanently....... now this IS cool if you ask me........... I thought that was just me!

AK, buy something cheap, sensible, modern, economical, diesel, and throughly boring.
Then you'll get the urge back after winter.

I'm not sure quite what purpose buying yet another car would serve, other than perhaps getting me single

;)cant fault you alistair on liking the lexus, they are a fabulous car ,thing is you are allowed to be happy and comfortable with it its your daily [and a v8 daily at that!] just lately i have bought a bleddy 03 hdi citroen c5 estate and i love it!!!!!! 55mpg electric everything etc etc, still doesn,t stop me from taking the 300c out now and then , truth is though in the current climate we are lucky to have a 'daily' and hobby car, if it came down to it the last car left on my drive now would be the citroen, this doesn't mean I'm not a retro/classic car nut! i would still spend £14000 a month on car mags whilst complaining about not having a retro on the road.
the other thing that gets us down is the time of year, dark nights, end of show season [except nec where btw the 300c is on the cedric stand!! very honoured] cold wet roads, cold wet garages ,leaking sunroofs ,easy start, damp start ,etc etc
all the more reason to be happy in the knowledge your lexus will start ,warm your cheeks and not leak, never mind its bleddy christmas soon! sure your mojo will kick back in after then, [you never know i may even finish your gates soon!!!

The probable issue here is that you want a Yank tank to run but have got 3 that don't. The only thing that runs properly is the Lexus. And that's making you question why have them?
Can I suggest something here ... identify which of the retros you really want. Keep the Lexus and only have one. By selling the others you'd make SWMBO happier AND have spare cash to repair (and run) the one which you want to keep.

I think 1 Daily and 1 Retro is the way to start over again. Get a working, reliable retro to please yourself and remember your daily is just a 'tool'
At one point this year I had 4 cars + her daily...now its one each (plus a stashed camper up in a barn - but that doesnt count)...and until the Cedric is close to completion, I am forcing myself not to buy any more (Ive locked myself out of my eBay deliberatly)
Pick your fave yank motor, sell the others, use profit to make 1 car mega (turnkey engine?)... smile & enjoy.

Your car is not 'epic', this thread is not 'epic'....the OCEAN is epic, the UNIVERSE is epic.... please stop misusing this word!! It would appear Hotrods are the new VWs - aint fashion funny! '69 BUICK LESABRE 350

that makes sense. except....
I've been in that situation many times. And the thing is, you just can't sell them in a broken state as they're worth s*d all. You end up selling the best ones and keeping the broken worthless ones.

This is what I did before I moved house, sold all the good ones and ended up dragging the broken stuff across here with me and I've never managed to get back on track properly since.
I'm feeling more mojo for the Oldsmobile again now, as its about 10 days since I drove it last so the horror of that experiance is fading from my mind and I'm thinking "It can't have been THAT bad, can it?" so if I get chance over the weekend I might swap the carb over to the Qjet and see how badly I can feck up installing HEI ignition in it and see if the resultant codgery runs any better than the present codgery. I am preparing to be in denial over the transmission for a while. I know what I want to do with that, however I lack the skills to do it myself and lack the funds to pay a reputable specialist to do the work. I have a sort of plan on this score though. The Olds was supposed to be a cheap/quick/easy project but I can see it soaking up significant time and money now.

Morning Alistair, I have this constant urge to buy more old cars, but have stopped myself at the Bus and Anglia, and to be honest, the Anglia is now sorted, but parked up, because Nicola does not want to take it out in the weather, so in my book, it should go, and money back in the bank/mortgage. I have too much stuff, and even have to plan when I take the motorbike out, just how to manipulate it out of the garage.
I think the start again simple, like JS said may be one way of doing it.
