Best give it up now mate, for one thing you can get a decent retro car for the price of some of those sets of rims! Not to mention the juice those things guzzle!
Cost aside though, the VIP/bling style of cars is sort of appealing. It's not really me to be honest, seems to represent more of an arrogant sort of personality. I mean, you may get more attention in one of those cars with the big rims than you would in a classic Ford or whatever, but you just know that the outside world thinks you're either an overpaid footballer or a drug dealer! ;D Just my 2c.

Its all personal opinion and who you are right now in your life but personally..............i hate every single one of those cars. Just not my idea of retro or cool or flash or any of those things. This has no bearing on anything at all as i personally hate most things that apparantly normal people think are awesome and what normal people should aspire too. We all have periods of no mojo or a desire for something different but only you can decide if you will defect permanently....... now this IS cool if you ask me...........

I've always liked luxobarges, they are usually so cheap to buy the extra fuel they use is inconsequential unless your using them around town a lot, insurance is usually pretty cheap compared to a modified smaller car (my Jags less than 200 quid fully comp and will do over 30mpg on a run) big wheels and tyres may be expensive but then what else do you have to add to them? they come with everything else as standard and some of em handle and shift really well too.

i really like all of those cars, id happily own and drive any of them. and I'm neither arrogant, overpaid or a drug dealer. its back to different strokes for different folks again. we all have different tastes, and those tastes change, but one thing remains, we all like cars.

Loving some of those cars posted.
I've got no issues with modern luxo-barges, especially modified ones. I feel a lot of the hate towards them is because of the funds needed to own one, not jealousy as such, just massive lifestyle differences.
I've got a CLS for six weeks to run around in, I hope it makes me want to go out and get an old E-Class rather than a new C-Class.

the WALD stuff is way more than a set of wheels. its like saying the Shelby put some stripes on a Mustang. (Almost). Lots of clever, and horrifically unaffordable tuning on them. And at £35K entry level for a recent used one the LS460 is a bit more expensive than a Focus or whatever. Especially if you pay the £65K new price... Yeah, you could "tribute" it on a '93 mk1 or something but its not the same.
I'm off and on with the VIP thing, I like the look but it is all show no go and the german tuned stuff like the Lexus in the first pic is built to boogie. I like that idea. 500+ BHP Mercs and the like have to be good for a giggle.
I just realised since I got the Olds back on the road the number of times I have driven it is outnumbered by the times I thought about driving it but took the Lexus instead. I have only actually driven it once on anything other than a test drive. Even when it works properly the Oldsmobile is dynamically inferior to the Lexus in every way.
I could sell it and blow the money on a set of stainless headers and exhaust for the Lexus... Something I would at least use every day.
I enjoy the Lexus, I don't enjoy any of the other cars I own. Oddly this has turned into another one of those "boo hoo lost my mojo" type threads when I think I started it with a more positive intent. More thinking about how a few years ago I never lioked the modifed modern stuff but now I do, either it has changed, or I have, or I understand it better now. Dunno. Feel free to lock & bin thread if its no good.

Have I missed something Norm? The whole VIP thing is an integral part of RR....along with modified classics and also the odd Capri While I totally <heart> the VIP look, I personally couldn't own one. I dig them but wouldn't do them. That is of course my view and here is why: If I wanted a big car I'd roll a Eurobarge that looked something like this: ...or even more so, something like this: ^ That 2nd pic ^ makes me wibble!

Have I missed something Norm? Dunno, maybe? What I take from AK's bawling, is what he said: "I'm losing my religion." He says he's leaning turn-key. That's not VIP. That's turn-key. VIP = modified. Turn-key = turn-key. I don't have a dog in this scrap. I'm lamenting somebody augering into checkbook luxo cars. I cry for him.

Don't cry for me Argentina. The truth is I can't afford one anyway
If my Premium Bonds ever come up then I would definitely consider waving my cheque book. So ner. What were Yenko, Shelbys and the like if not cheque book tuning cars anyway

Nothing too wrong with that. The older Lexuses are now old enough to be not-quite-modern, with a monster V8 in the front they're quite tasty cars and you certainly won't sink into the grey goo of Vectras in the car park.
Everyone's mojo takes a dive from time to time. Don't worry, it'll pass. Go out and have a play with one of your projects, it'll work wonders.

You've completely lost me now Norm, but meh......I see mostly VIP's and no mention of 'turn key'. I guess it must just be me, so apologies. Anyway, back to my attack of the Uberbarges p/chop maybe, but hella cool regardless!

You've completely lost me now Norm, but meh...... No, no. Very likely I am the one who's lost, heheheh. Very easily. I think you ought to ask AK what's he "lost" then? I thought he was losing his jones for modded retro cars, and wanting a new/late-model checkbook car. If not, then I'm unclear on the point of this thread.

Snap out of it right now or I'll send a fat man round to kiss you on the face!
seriously though it's always easier to take the modern esp when the weathers poo and the old classics playing up, but come the sunshine and a fully sorted yank barge you'll be taking the olds out every opportunity, if you got shot of it youd miss and feel like a real amateur in you pimped up Lexus..
Enjoy the modern barge for the great daily it undoubtedly is and keep the classics yanks for the soul...

Especially as its winter. I lose all mojo for anything at all in winter. I need to move to a sunnier climate really. Maybe I just have the wrong old cars.
