Howdy.
A recommendation for any of you MX-5 owners who may be wanting a new roof to keep the winter out - we got a new one fitted yesterday and are very pleased with it!
The old vinyl one was cracking and leaky and getting a bit past it so we decided to go for a mohair one, which has transformed the look of the car and made it look all shiny and new again. We had some pretty epic rain last night and I'm pleased to report there wasn't a single leak!
We were also a little tired of not being able to see out of the milky rear window so we upgraded to a roof with a heated glass one. It's great to look in the rear view mirror and actually see what's behind you!
We heartily recommend Hot Hoods of Goodmayes, Romford - the roof was £400 fitted (pretty good, since that's what most places seem to charge for a vinyl one), and the guys were really helpful and professional. Parts and labour are guaranteed for a year, and they said they do over 400 rooves a year, so I guess they know what they're doing.
They're not covered to do the electrical work so you have to hook up the wiring for the heated window element yourself, but it looks pretty easy - all you need is a dash switch, a fuse and a relay (as long as your car has the loom already in place [connector on rear shelf behind passenger headrest], otherwise you'll need this too).
So, yeah. Go there if you want a new hat that's cheap and good. That's my advice.
