I've just made a deal swapping this: For this I've got another bus of a more manageable size now (see Readers Rides), and the Bedford needed a new daddy who could give her the love and attention she deserves. Now, I'm the owner of a chopper, but no bike license! As far as mods, as you can see, she's pretty sweet as she stands. I'm 6'3, however, so I think forward controls are going to be a must. This might be a bit of an affront to the bikes current relatively bobber-esque style (which I like), but I'm also wondering about a king and queen seat and a sissy bar. I've always loved 70's style bikes, and it'd be nice to be able to carry a passenger. Whaddya think? I should take possession of the bike on Weds, more news then.....

cool bike and will certinly be less of an issue as far as parking is concerned ;D might be a bit cramped to ride with the seat that low and the rear brake and gear lever where they are and I might think about trimming down the rear mudguard or getting it closer to the tyre somehow if it were mine but I have to say that is one cool bike

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Definitely needs forward controls - will look into that.

Couple more pics, from another site (I don't get the bike til Weds). Obviously has different bars here, but I think you may like the mudguard more....

No experience AT ALL, beyond riding my Dad's old CD175 round a field as a kid, and the occasional moped on holiday. Dedicated cyclist, though.
The only thing that might part me from this thing is money. I don't have any for gear or training (it was a totally unexpected opportunity to get the thing), and I really need some for other things. We'll see.

Your not wrong, basically the powers that be don't want you riding a bike, so licensing laws and training are so prohibitive that only people who really want one or can afford it will bother it seems.
A subject that its best not to get me started on............ I mean, why legislate what people can ride when where and how (i.e. age, size of bike etc etc) yet car drivers can drive what they want straight off? Its not just unfair, its almost victimisation.
I'm thinking getting a bike licence these days will cost you a minimum of about 500 quid all told.

£500 sounds good compared to what a very quick search found me (7-800). I'm more than prepared to hunt around. I also need to figure out how much I need to spend to get a decent helmet. They're out there from about £60, but I'm suspicious of the quality of the cheapest.

yeah, shop around for besttraining deal etc as for helmets, interesting question........... Buy what fits your head best, ive got an arai shaped head personally, they just fit and feel the best. Ive had cheapo FM (anyome remember them) stuff that fitted fine and did its job admirably but even though the cheaper lids pass the required safety tests to be sold for road use, some pass better then others so its tricky.

Yeah. Tempted by an open face helmet for style and comfort, but apparently 30%ish of accidents involve an impact to the chin bar. Don't fancy that much!

Glargh! The more I think about this, the less I can afford it right now. I don't mind sitting on it, doing my test as and when I can afford, and riding after, but I need not to let it deteriorate. This means I really need to get my in gear, and get my 2nd garage built (1st is full of bicycles, some of which should maybe be cashed in........) I have a concrete slab which I mismeasured, and needs to be 2 ft longer, and I have a pile of cast concrete pieces. I need to put it up, repairing damaged bits as I got, and then create some sort of roof, and some sort of door. Hmmmm. Maybe I really need to sell some bikes.

I'm feeling inspired by this seat. It'd be nice to be able to carry my wife, or my 13 y/o son. Would I be a total style criminal?
