Nothin "cool" or "roadtrip filmworthy" about an 80's/90's 5 series, in fact they seem to be anti styled just to be discreet, easy to look past without any distinguishing features, very German i think, you wouldnt be watching the film and keep getting drawn back to the menacing looks of the car, it just looks like any other sallon car of its era.
I think whatever you pick it need to look sufficently distinctive to make it one of those cars that would stand out in a car park of its contemporaries, not a car that in car park of say 50 cars you would expect to see maybe 5 of the same type in there.
Something a little odd, or quirky but that you know would do the job despite its shortcomings, nothing too efficient, something like its driver, flawed but still able to get the job done.
