Blimey, Some people I know in some of those photos LOL. We used to go WGW every year (and twice a year when it went semi-annual) but getting a car show going along side is genius. I did every one from the second one (1995 I think?) through until about 2002 or so. The "real" goths tend to go to Dark City festival now as the whitby one has become a bit of a geordie fancy dress do. Not so car friendly to run a show in Edinburgh though... www.darkcity-edinburgh.com/events.php

There are "real goths" and "fake goths" now?
Is this like a Harley-riding gangs sort of thing?

Without wishing to vere off topic, "not real goth" meaning someone who never gives the matter any thought the other 51 weekends of the year, doesn't listen to any goth music, nor even particualrly wear goth clothes. However turns out for the Halloween weekend doing their best impersonation of bride of dracula or whatever. Now without wanting to get into the whole nostalgia thing that when I were a lad everything were way better, but back then this was a MUSIC festival, where people went to see bands, get drunk, take speed, poppers and have illicit sex in the grave yard with someone elses' girlfriend/boyfriend/a local stray cat as appropriate to ones definition of "attending a music festival".
At some point, the quality iof the bands took a bit of a dive, and people started coming to parade around town all day and get photographed by the myriad dirty old men who hang about with expensive cameras jocking the ladies for a photo. A chunk of the attendees a while ago when I went was the crews of local trawlers who were all dressed as Jack Sparrow. Which is fine, they doubtless have a ball, but meh. You also find an awful lot of 50-something cross dressers up there too. Not sure what thats all about either.
It was once the UK's premier gothic music event. Now it isn't. Lots of goths still go. Most of my old crew still go up for it. But there are better and proper gothic music events which aren't full of middle aged trannies, captian pugwash wannabes and whatever

As my relative Frank used to say, "Is that a real poncho or a Sears poncho?"
Meh.

Here here. Bloody fancy dress and trannys. There is still a strong goth attendance but theres an awful lot of dressing up for the weekend too. The debate has run for years and I'm not going there. although I get lumped in as a *Goth* I'm not. I looked this way a long time before goth came along. Goths all look like me! That aside...... Was a great weekend and I think the whole car thing and goth thing mixed pretty well.
Looking forward to next year.

I'll try keep the weekend free next time if you are doing it again next time around. it looks like it went off pretty well. It also means I can get parking which is usually a right ballache trying to find any spaces around town... Thats actually a hell of a selling point TBH...

sadly not graveyard fornicators, more the Soon-to-be graveyard inhabitors.
There are a couple of big hotels which cater almost exclusively for the elderly there. Its coach trip country up there. Shearings, Saga, that lot.
I once stayed in the Shearings hotel in Whitby, easy chewing evening meals were served 5 - 7pm and the whole place was hot as a sauna.

Looks like an interesting show And just saw '6OTH' on an Audi 80, funnily enough my girlfriend commented too and said 'look it says 60 TH, must have been a birthday present.' I wonder who was right?

I shall have to give Dark City a look. BTW, I've always seen Trannies and people playing dress up on weekends as much a part of the scene as those who "lived it" full time. It was the acceptance and at the same time internal ridicule that made it so that anything goes.
