Ive held fire on this until i got the pictures and video but i probably wont get them till after Christmas now. On the 8th i entered my first 12 car rally of the season in the shuv (after missing the first round as the car was broken into so at home). It was brilliant with only a couple of moments - landing with the back a little out of line at 80mph, brown trousers and a little tank slapper! , and on video (when i get it) i came through a ford and on the exit got a wheel on the grass resulting in a big slide on the limiter - well its got to be done for the camera! The shuv ran brilliantly and was up against some serious competition - and heres the best bit here are the results...
1st Chevette Rob & Charles Dowson Park 2nd James Parfitt & Mike Magnet and Steele Perkins 3rd Reian "J-Lo" Jones & Chris "Rock Geek" Roberts 4th Mat Wheeler & Matt Brewerton 5th Keiran Houldsworth & Greg Loader 6th Ben Robert-Snell & Oliver Knights 7th James Stiff & Alistair Downes 8th Dave Harley & Lee Ebsworth

Excellent stuff! Now the 'Shuv' has true race pedigree! 12 car rallying if I understand it correctly all takes place on puplic roads, normally at night? I'm sure the law would take quite a dim view of the events - but i'm sure the excellent organisation & gentlemanly conduct of the drivers means its kept low-key & trouble free My mate & his future brother-in-law both 12 car rally a 60s 997 Mini Cooper & have 'binned' it into a field on a couple of occasions ;D

Yeah, the event takes place at night. You have to aim for an average speed of 30mph and are encouraged to stick to the speed limits(which are usually national and on most of the roads your pushing it at 40mph!). The roads used are so out in the middle of nowhere that you never meet anyone or disturb anyone. You are give grid references of quiet zones (past peoples houses ect) so everyone is kept sweet.

My only problem with these things is I've got an actual real live job so being at night they can be quite trouble some

I LOVE road rallies, done quite a few of them in my time It's amazing how difficult it is to keep up to a 30mph average! Most of the ones I've done are in North Wales and the Peak District. I'm glad they are done at night, it's really scarey driving the same roads in the daytime - you can see how far down some of the drops are at the sides of the roads

Sounds like you had a great evening I reckon everyone should do a Road rally at least once, it really gets the adrenaline going ;D. If you spend half the time plotting the route but have to average 30mph the you have to really give it some . It's hard work trying to plot a route on the move, I was sick just testing route of out first ever 12 car as I was looking down at the map so much ;D An inter-university 12 car...

They are fantastic, ive done a few trackdays and enjoy these more and they only cost £20-£40 including petrol (as long as you don't bend it) There is just something about the adrenaline, the cold night air, blazing spotlights, the smell of petrol and hot engines - its just the most fun, and i can pretend I'm Tony Pond!
