LHD AE86 with a boot.. any interest to rally boys?

if its mint with tuning parts- loads and loads, if its a scruffy shed that has no floor, arches, sills and runs on 3 cylinders - loads ! does he want rid of it cheap?

You should but it! then do a 12 car rally in it (i can sort you out a place!) I love these so much, on day i might be able to afford one. This is a definatly money to be made on this, but more importantly fun to be had - 8500rpm, LSD sideways anyone?

A lot of the 'drift' scene is now moving away from them in some countries.

Also remember if it is an 'import' (and it will be as it's a notchback! only hatch/liftback was officially sold in UK with LSD as standard ) it does not always have a LSD.
Plus there are starting to be a lot of import AE85's (1500 single cam engine...I think) that have been made into AE86 replicas (by fitting a '4AGE Twink' engine etc). Ok not a problem if bought cheap enough but wrong for a puriist whos paid top bucks thinking he's got a genuine AE86 (and this has been happening).

Also these cars rust and rust bad!
In standard form their bodyshells were very light and hence very weak and easily flexed (so rust would soon take a hold).

I don't think the prices of AE86`s will get much higher (they cant!!) But also I don't think they will drop much over the next few years. The second hand market for all classic and retro cars is getting stronger and even if the drifters and the irish tarmac rallyists stop buying and start choosing other cars I think the amount of available cars and amount of interest will keep the prices pretty high.

With regards to AE85`s there was a one on ebay a month or two back. Completely standard in a gold brown colour.
1.5 drum brakes standard ae85 bumpers so it didnt even look like an ae86 and last I saw of it was over £2000 without meeting the reserve. WHY??? The only thing that could be used was the shell everything else different.

I keep toying with the idea of getting another ( I paid £800 for my last one ;D ) But there is no way I could justify paying £3,500 plus for a car in the same condition as that one. I could by a cosworth, M3, M5, Skyline, Impreza, EVO or even a skoda rapid for the same money.

Only a complete fool would buy one.....
