Anyone any experience of this problem? Since I moved the GTi-R into my garage to do some welding, my Toyota has been sat outside. When I went to turn it over and move it back and forwards last week, I noticed the entire inside of the roof was dripping wet (no rooflining fitted). It took two sponges and a towel to soak it all up.
I've dried it again today and left the doors open for a few hours since it's not raining. Any recommended remedies?
Aaron.

A caravan/boat dehumidifier box from the likes of B&Q. They are a water trap which use crystals that pull the moisture out the of the air. It's incredable what they can do.

Thanks for that guys. Any idea of rough cost for a decent one? I was made redundant on Friday when the company i'd been with 11years closed down and have to watch the pennies for a while.

You're talking £5-£10 for a water catching crystal filled box from the likes of B&Q. £80 for a singing and dancing electric jobbie but that's to be used in a room with the car really.

Humm is this only a Problem with stripped out cars or ones with leaks. As the GT is outside all year round and up to last weekend was not used for 3 weeks but no Damp or smell or Mould. However it does have a specfic made Breath-able full to the floor cover. Maybe this helps.
I do tend to put a large pack of Silcone Crystals in the car, usually in the center and replace that every month or so, but since I got this purpose car cover its not really required as its got no real damp.

£5! pah!
Dude,
If you want a no-frills option, do like i did: Salt ('borrow' some sachets from your local fast-food outlet for maximum ghetto points)
+
Rice (uncooked)
+
Tupperware container/other plastic box with a re-sealable lid e.g. empty butter container
=De-humidifier
I leave mine open on the drivers seat when not using the car, then fasten it up when I'm driving anywhere to avoid uneccessary spillage.
The salt/rice mixture needs stirring/shaking occasionally when it gets too wet, and will need replacing after a while, but it works.
You could also go round to your mates asking for those silica gel 'do not eat' packets you get in most packaged stuff (e.g. trainers/electrical stuff). Cut them open, stick 'em inyour plastic tub!

It seems to be working OK - I put it in the Golf a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday I opened the car up to get some stuff out of it and all seemed fine...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I worked in an electronics factory, so always had a supply of large (4"x3") silica packets. I normally have about 10 spread around the car but they don't seem to be keeping up to the job anymore.
I'll try the rice and salt and see if it does the trick but this was more water/condensation than I've ever seen before so may have to invest in a proper one.

you've not got a leak anywhere have you? i know that water won't run onto the inside of the roof but if you've got other damp areas (oor-eer missus, fnar fnar etc) then if the car warms up in the daytime you'll get lots of misting on windows and bare metal... nighttime comes and it all just goes clammy. i have a horrendous problem with this in the rocco, as there's a leak from the bulkhead/a-pillar onto the drivers side shelf which fills with water, the first bit of sunshine on the car and it's like driving a rainforest around. need windscreen wipers on the inside.

When my Imp was kept in the garden instead of in the garage where it is now I had that problem a lot, it had some sort of green mould growing all over the inside of the doors and everything! Leaving the window open slightly when you can helps, as does using the little dehumidifier things, and you might consider, if the car has to sit on the grass or anything, sitting it on top of some concrete slabs or a sheet of plastic or something, it'll be much less mouldy if it isn't lying directly on damp ground.

It's sat on gravel, and as far as I can find it only has a slight leak into the boot from a taillight seal. There seems to be no damp patches low down near the floor or anything, just the inside of the roof. Maybe the door seals etc aren't doing their job anymore, they are 30 years old although i have rubbed vaseline into them every year to try and keep them from perishing.
