Dangerously O/T, I know.... but surely as petrol-heads, it is our DUTY to discuss the Veyron as featured on last nights TG.... Just how utterly, uttely astounding is this beast? The sheer amount of development and refinement that must have gone into this is phenomenal. It kinda makes F1 racers look a bit silly/redundant! The stats on it are just daft, and the sale price compared to what it costs to build make it look like an incredible bargain. Anyone else have any views? BUT.... why did it not get 'Stig'd' around the test track?? Surely it would have wiped the floor with anything else?

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

nickb in da house: it is our DUTY to discuss the Veyron as featured on last nights TGI have mixed feelings, it don't hit me like an early Lambo LP400 or Vector W2 does and while it's a real supercar it's still a VAG product and when it comes to VAG the VW W12 with it's simple almost understated lines and style is IMO a more tastefull car, sure it woun't draw as manny looks down in South Miami.... Coolest of the W12's is the Nardo record car... Feel a bit strange having opinions on a car you woun't even dream of owning......

as a piece of engineering, in my mind its untouchable. Top Gear never gets very techy but i think Clarkson made a lot of good points. Without being boring you have to be staggared that this car meets emissions regulations, will be reliable, durable, will drive happily around town at 15mph not polluting and them do 250+mph down your local dual carrage way. The sad fact is that it is Concorde - we will not see anything like this again for a very long time. The company who brought you the Veyron also produced a Lupo with a 3 cylinder diesel engine that would do 100km on 3 litres of fuel, beating all these hybrid cars. This lupo went into production with magnesium doors, wings, boot and bonnet and sold it at a massive loss. VW's where its all going on at the moment

As an engineering feat I think it's amazing.
As a car I can't say it particulary interests me, but then super/hypercars generally don't.

i love it. It's great. And mad that VW are prepared to kiss goodbye to £4milion quid a car!
100 litres of fuel in 12 minutes!!! Just how much did that segment cost the BBC to do! And why did the stig not get to hammer it round the track (yes! I know why!)

The veyrons styling is a big cack handed I think. Lots of wierd things going on and certainly not elegant. A beautifully screwed together machine with some amazing details, but I think it looks strangely ugly. A fellow colleague come up with these designs for Ferrari recently..... This is what a supercar should look like!!! www.cardesignnews.com/news/2005/051123ferrari-contest/

I think its an awesome car/experiment/showcase whatever you wnat to call it but I think its looks let it down. But then I never liked the looks of the EB110 either. I applaud any manufacturer who will make and produce a car like that, even if its not to my taste.
However if I had that sort of money and I had to spend it on one car I would have a Mclaren F1.
It would have been nice to see how it did on the track though.
One other comment I would like to make about top gear was Nigels Mansells lap timein the Liana. ;D Very impressive. I wonder how fast he would be with his tache intact.

Mmmm - which bit of 1000bhp is dull Bet you wouldn't say no to a ride in one - and I defy anyone not to be just a tincey-wincey bit thrilled by the experience ;D yeh id probably get in one given the chance and sure itd be probably unbelievable. but the reason i find the whole thing really dull is that, its a car built to perfection(hence why i like the engineering side of it) but its just too much for my personal tastes, 16cylinders 4turbos blah blah all about 1000bhp. I'm not particularily into the whole masses of horsepower thing. its interesting that they have made a car that will be reliable with 1000bhp but it doesnt excite me. i don't like the 4wd, i don't like the shape of the car. the car to me is dull. the engineering isnt.

its immense. i cant get enough of it. clarkson wrote loads about it in the sunday times a few weeks back, the stats on the car are incredible.
the only thing that confused me was that I'm sure you can get a lift directly from the bottom to the 42nd floor of Tower 42 ;D

the only thing that confused me was that I'm sure you can get a lift directly from the bottom to the 42nd floor of Tower 42 ;D It was, like all the races and challenges, of course, a set up. Like they wouldn't have known that James May was only daylight qualified, like they wouldn't have known about the detour down to Nice, like they wouldn't have had to have planned the fuel stop etc etc. All in the cause of good telly, which it was (good telly that is)

Well what a machine, but ill never have that kind of money if i did, another story The looks are nice and futuristic-ish/modern which i like, apart from that grill which looks like it kissed an old bugatti or summat and stayed the same! Yeah that thing is amazing and thanks Clarkson for pointing out, just makes me want to build something silly fast, but simpler, generally though its awesome!
